Yoga Day through the efforts of our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed by a talk on yoga and its impact on mental health during this pandemic. The day was observed upholding our spiritualistic tendencies towards a better self. To create an awareness and reinforcement drive a short program was therefore organized wherein it was important to understand the essence of “Yog” and “Yoga” not just for physical health but also for mental health because the COVID- 19 wave has exacerbated existing mental health inequalities. The knowledge of Yoga during these tough times provided a sense of peace and calmness and its contribution during the lockdown cannot be dwarfed. Yoga and asanas have therefore taken a center stage during this pandemic as stress relievers. Food is also an essential part of health, the kind of meal taken and the Sattvic diet no doubt forms an integral part of Yoga. It was followed by a small Yoga awareness song glorifying the ideals of Yoga and its essence in its birth place India and finally the program was concluded by the melodious voice of Dr. Rekha Nariwal, Head, Department of Education, The Bhawanipur Education Society College, who with her Ghazal touched our souls and finally concluding remarks was given by Ms. Madhuja Biswas, Lecturer, Department of Education, The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
In this digital era when things are more on online mode and fast forward, let us give ourselves some time and take a step towards better health, a better life and ultimately a better mind. A holistic approach to health and well-being is to be sought in our educational institutions as well. Yoga is therefore not just doing physical exercises but inculcating a sense of oneness with the world and the nature. It is quintessential therefore to maintain our equilibrium and head towards acquiring better life skills by making Yoga an integral part of our lives.
