The Bhawanipur Educational Society College hosted a three-day workshop on the vibrant and spiritually significant festival of Navaratri, to learn Garba as a dance form from October 7th to October 9th, 2023. This spirited event took place in the Jubilee Hall, located on the college campus’s 6th floor, and commenced at 10:30 am each day. The festival of Navaratri, a cherished Hindu festival, carries deep cultural and spiritual meaning, representing the victory of good over evil. During this time, nine divine forms of Shakti are honoured, and the festivities are intertwined with the traditional folk dances of Dandiya Raas and Garba, which are an essential part of the celebrations.
Over 200 enthusiastic students participated in this engaging workshop, immersing themselves in the art of Dandiya and Garba, making the entire experience a lively and colourful affair. The students learned a variety of intricate dance steps, including “hinch,” “panchi,” “teen taali,” “kutchi garba,” and “Raas.” The workshop was expertly conducted under the mentorship of Mr. Dharmesh Bhimani, who shared his extensive knowledge and passion for these traditional dances with the eager participants. Assisting him were several dedicated volunteers who ensured the smooth flow of the workshop.
The successful execution of this workshop was made possible through the supervision of the Rector and dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah, who provided invaluable support and guidance. The event was very well coordinated by Mrs. Nalini Parekh, ensuring that the participants had the best possible experience during this festival. The workshop buzzed with excitement and energy, making the atmosphere truly electric. Students dived into the detailed dance routines, moving to the rhythmic beats of the Dandiya sticks. The air was filled with laughter and joy as they twirled, clapped, and danced together, creating a cheerful and celebratory atmosphere.
Dandiya and Garba have always been an essential part of Navaratri celebrations, and this workshop allowed students to not only grasp their cultural significance but also actively participate. It was heartwarming to see students from diverse backgrounds coming together to embrace this rich cultural heritage. As the workshop ended, all the participants were beaming with happiness and excitement.
