With the aim of providing practical industrial exposure to students, the college organised an industrial tour to Gujarat for 36 students from 10th January to 21st January 2016.
The industrial tour added one more important and unique chapter to the series many new initiatives undertaken by college under the vision and active guidance of its Vice Chairman Mr. Miraj Shah and Dean of students’ affairs Prof. Dilip Shah. The trip was planned four months before the travel and only 36 students were selected out of the many who applied for the same. The faculty co-ordinators for the tour were Prof. Vijay Kothari and Prof. Divyesh Shah.
The travelling was arranged by train (AC III) tier and students were provided accommodation in three star (or equivalent) hotels on a triple share basis. The road travel was arranged in a Volvo type comfortable AC coach.
The students visited following companies / plants:-
|Industry||Place||Plants / Units|
|Eco textile Park||Surat||GETP Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP)|
|Rajlaxmi Denim Manufacturing Plant|
|Three Wheeler Manufacturing||Rajkot||Atul Automobiles Ltd.|
|Ship Recycling Industry||Alang||Ship Breaking Plots|
|GEPIL – Hazardous Waste Management Plant|
|Pharma Industry||Baroda||SPARC (Sun Pharma Advanced Research Centre)|
With an emphasis on learning the basic features of industries and companies, six teams of students (each having six students) were formed. Each team was then assigned to prepare and present a pre-visit project report on one sector/company each. This exercise gave a very solid and basic understanding of all industries and companies to all students.
With this level of understanding and information, the plant and visit followed by interaction with management was very productive and gave a tremendous exposure to students on intricacies of real life situations.
With lot of fun during road travel and enjoying highway food, the students also had the opportunity to enjoy the kite festival in Ahmedabad, They also visited Gondal palace which houses more than 100 Super premium cars from last century.
More importantly, the journey did not end at arriving back on 21st as students team were to prepare final report on the companies visited and its take away. This detailed report will come out in the form of an e-book.
Indeed the Industrial Tour to Gujarat 2016 was a novel initiative which helped students to understand, analyse and appreciate various factors that drive the profitability and success of a company.
The college will continue with annual Industrial Tour to different states and is also planning to add international destination from this year.
