A factory visit to the Jacks Plastics Pvt. Ltd at Maheshtala was organized by the Shop- Floor collective of our college for the students of Commerce Plus on 20th August 2016. The students were accompanied by Prof. Diveysh Shah and Prof. Kaushik Banerjee.
It was the first “Industry visit” held in the current academic year. Students were fully energized at the wonderful opportunity of visiting an actual medium scale factory for the first time.
On reaching the factory, the students were warmly welcomed by the Mr. Kirit Shah (MD) and his team of Sr. Managers. After light refreshment, the factory tour started. The site has two units as follows:-
Injection Molded Plastic Products Unit and
Sheet Metal Fabrication Products Unit
Injection Molded Plastic Products Unit and
Mr. Pradeep Dey (Manager) gave a detailed guided tour to the Injection Molded Plastic Products Unit aand explained the manufacturing process in simple terms.
The process involved molding PPCP granules, mixing it for desired color with the “Master Batch’, followed by injection molding and production of final products. The company uses imported as well as Indian machineries in the manufacturing process.
Submarine Battery containers, CRT television exteriors for Sansui and Videocon, battery casing for Exide constitutes major share of company’s production in this unit.
Chairs, Folding tables, Fridge Stand etc (Furniture Segment ) and Buckets, Bottles, jugs, jars, containers, pencil box, ball pens etc.(Domestic and Household Segment) are also manufactured.
Sheet Metal Fabrication Products Unit
The students were then taken for a tour of fabrication unit by the manager Mr. Prabir Dey. Electrical Control Panels of Various capacity of ‘Schineder ‘ brand are the main products of this unit. The unit also manufactures Retail Visual Identity (RVI) Cabinets for Samsung Ltd.
The company has a sales turnover of Rs. 100 cr. and employs a workforce of 350 workers working 12 hour shift. The company operates 2 shifts daily. Supreme Industries, Durgapur is a major competitor.
The tour concluded with a motivational speech by Mr. Kriti Shah for the student community.
This amazing tour is a positive benchmark for future industry visits to come for all the students of BESC as they have definitely gained an enormous practical knowledge from this pleasant experience.
