The Bhawanipur Education Society College hosted its annual intra-college kabaddi tournament on the 4th of February, at the Jubilee Hall of the college. The event started at 10 A.M. and went on till 6 P.M. The major objective of this event was to foster an interest in kabaddi among the students. The event also promised to be an enthralling ride for the students who took part in it to help them arouse their enthusiasm for sports and fitness.
A total of twelve teams took part in the tournament; of which nine teams consisted of boys and three teams were girls. Each team comprised 9 players and hence 108 participated in the tournament. The tournament kicked off with the presence of esteemed officials of the college, amongst whom was Mr. Swarup Ghosh, the well-known coach from Calcutta University. The teams got on with each other, locking horns and giving a tough fight throughout; thereby raising the qualitative bar of the tournament. Gradually the game became so interesting that none of them were ready to leave even the slightest inches of ground for their opponents. The overall winners of the tournament, from their respective categories of boys and girls, were to contest the Inter-College Kabaddi Tournament, which is to be held on the 10th of February.
The first half, from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M., consisted of the first qualifier round for the boys, and one match was played between the girls. The nine boys’ teams played against each other and the top four marched through to the next round. The girls’ team matches were played in a trilateral series format from where the top two teams were to contest for the finals.
The second half kickstarted at 3 P.M. and concluded at 6 P.M. The half kickstarted with the girls’ team resuming from where it was put to pause before the first half. The finals were played between the Bhawanipur Girls Team A and Bhawanipur Girls Team B where Team B won it comfortably by a healthy margin of 8 points. Team Garam Masala was placed third. Next to this, the boys’ competition resumed. The finals were played between Bhawanipur Boys Team A and Bhawanipur Boys Team B which served to be a nail-biting competition that ended in an intense score of 51-50 in favour of Team B. Team Invaders KC, acquired the position of third.
The event concluded with the closing note of Prof. Dilip Shah, Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, who wholeheartedly appreciated the spirit of the event, with the need for and importance of a sport like kabaddi in the sports culture of India. He also congratulated every participant for their Interest in the sport. With this, the Bhawanipur Intra-College Kabaddi Tournament was wrapped up.
