7. Objective of the event: To promote scientific temper and to encourage the development of scientific attitudes among people, especially students by highlighting national contributions and celebrating scientific achievements.
8. Brief description of the event: After the initiation of the National Science Day (Phase-1) celebration on 28.02.2024, National Science Day (Phase-2) has been celebrated by the science section of The Bhawanipur Education Society College on 24.06.2024 in association with Seminar/FDP/Workshop Committee and Peer Student Committee of the Science Section. Committee coordinators Dr.Yeasin Sikdar, Ms. Shawni Dutta, Dr. Suchandra Chakraborty stringed the event flow with the advice and support of Vice principal of science Dr. Pinki Saha Sardar. Ms. Anamika Guha, faculty of Computer science department anchored the whole session skilfully.
In the Phase-2 celebration, the events were designed into two parts: i) Inter-Departmental Peer Student Presentation and ii) Inter-Departmental Quiz Competition.
In peer student presentation, students across different departments of the science section shared their views about different eminent personalities from the background of science and technology, namely Aryabhatta, Claude Shannon, Dr. Amartya Sen, Elon Musk and many more. The whole event was judged by Mr. Tathagata Sen and Ms. Pushpita Gangopadhyay, Associate Professors in the departments of English and Statistics of The B.E.S. college, respectively. The judges and the audience both had chosen the winners of this competition. Nivedita Roy and Sarbajit Sarkar from the department of Mathematics won the prize by Judges’ choice whereas Aishiki Guchait and Aarfa Mustafa from the department of Chemistry grabbed the prize by Audience choice.
In Inter-Departmental Quiz Competition, six teams comprising three students from each department participated in that event. A total of four rounds divided into two segments were conducted by the quizmaster, Mr. Utsab Mukherjee, faculty of the department of Computer Science. He also engaged the audience with lots of interesting questions from general science. Souptik Biswas, Nibedita Roy and Sarbajeet Sarkar from the department of Mathematics were selected as winners of this event. Pritam Guha, Rahul Mitra and Mrittika Kargupta of the department of Computer Science were selected as first runners-up whereas Atreyee Banerjee, Naureen Yasmin and Md. Faraz Karim from the department of Chemistry were selected as second runners-up in this event. An impactful vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Subarnarekha Bhattacharyya, Associate Professor of Physics department and convenor of the National Science Day (Phase-2) celebration.
9. Outcome of the event: National Science Day celebration provides students with valuable opportunities for learning, inspiration, skill development, and networking in the field of science. It plays a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of scientists, engineers, innovators, and thinkers who will contribute to the advancement of society through their scientific endeavours.
