Objective of the Event:
The objective of the FDP was to enhance faculty members’ understanding of bibliometric analysis, its tools, techniques and applications in academic research, publication assessment and scholarly impact evaluation. The FDP was focussed on the use of databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, Dimensions and softwares such as Biblioshiny and VosViewer in Bibliometric analysis.
Brief Description of the Event:
The two-day Faculty Development Programme on Bibliometric Analysis was jointly organized by the Department of Commerce, UG (Afternoon and Evening) and PG, The Bhawanipur Education Society College, in collaboration with IQAC, The Bhawanipur Education Society College. The sessions were conducted by Dr. Meghdoot Ghosh, who provided comprehensive insights into bibliometric concepts, citation analysis, h-index, impact factor, use of databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, Dimensions and softwares such as Biblioshiny and VosViewer.
On Day 1, the programme commenced with an inaugural speech delivered by Prof. Ashrity Shaw, Lecturer, Department of Commerce (Afternoon and Evening), BESC. Then, Dr. Ghosh was felicitated by Dr. Joyeta Bhaduri, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce (Afternoon and Evening), BESC, who also served as the Convenor of the programme. The first session began with the introduction to and usage of literary databases such as Scopus, Web of Science and Dimensions, with special focus on Dimensions. Query building and filtering of papers were discussed to prepare the final database file. Then, the discussion shifted to the use of Biblioshiny to obtain the various results needed for Bibliometric Analysis. After a brief lunch break from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm, the second session commenced with deeper insights into citation analysis, h-index, g-index, global and local citations.
Day 2 began on the same note, delving deep into the other relevant concepts such as network mapping, clustering, co-citation, intellectual structure, etc. After the lunch break, Dr. Ghosh explained the use of VosViewer for all the above analyses. After a short tea break, a google form-based evaluation was conducted to assess the learning outcome of the participants. The programme ended on a positive note, with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Debdutta Sen, Lecturer, Department of Commerce (Afternoon and Evening), BESC. A feedback form had been circulated to gather the experience gained and future suggestions of the participants.
The sessions were interactive, combining theoretical explanations with practical demonstrations.
Outcome of the Event:
The eagerness and engagement of the participants was clearly visible through their inquisitive approach and constant questioning. The evaluation of the participants also reflected a positive impact of the event on the participants’ skillsets. The participants gained practical knowledge of bibliometric tools and techniques, enabling them to improve research quality, publication strategies and scholarly visibility.
