“Teacher, guru, shikshakkirdar ek, naam kayi kis bhashaa, kin shabdo mein karu shukriya aapka ehsaan hai aapke hum par kayi”
With such universally true words began the Teachers’ Day Programme on September 5,2020 at 4:30 pm streamed live via YouTube. The day which is known to all; Teachers’ Day is always celebrated at The Bhawanipur Education Society College in high spirits and zeal. Educating one is the most honourable job in the world and to acknowledge their efforts and dedication even amidst the pandemic, various students from all departments came together to organise an online programme for the teachers.
The event began with the hosts Mrigank Agarwal and Shreyanshu Mishra creating a comic scenario regarding non-existent internet traffic to lighten the mood before they dedicated a few lines for the teachers. The whole programme was divided into seven segments – Few lines by the hosts, performance by Enact, performance by the B.B.A department, dance performance by Flames, musical performance by Crescendo, poetry by the BA, B.Sc and B.Com department and lastly tribute to Late Prof. Divyesh Shah.
In the second segment, The Enact team in a comic, entertaining and engaging way showcased the efforts put forth by the teachers during this pandemic to ensure we aren’t deprived of education and the problems they face in this new mode of online classes. The cast consisted of Afiya Praveen, Kalindi Sadani, Huzaifa Bin Misbah, Prerana Mukherjee, Sahil Lakhmani, Devashish Das Gupta, Sarfaraz Hossain Khan, Harsh More, Khushal Kapoor while the script was written by Prathyush Prakhar and Devashish Das Gupta, directed by Sahil Lakhmani.
Next lined up was the performance by B.B.A department, who dedicated a smoothing mashup sang by Vedant Khattry, followed by messages from Devesh Singhania, Gourav Sharma, Yashita Thaker, Megha Karwa, Vatsal Agarwal, Madhav Mohta, Preeti Jhawar, Pranjal Chandak, Kashish Komal, followed by another song dedicated by Ishita Kumari.
As rightly said by the host, to set the phone on fire, the next segment was taken over by the Flames collective of the college who presented solo performance by on songs of movie Andhadhun and Bandish Bandits, a Duo performance, and presented the perfectly coordinated solo performances on songs of movie Kapoor and Sons and Stree. The participants of the dance performances were Aman Kujur, Gunjan Singhi, Khushi Keswani, Muskaan Thakker, Dipali Ganeriwala and Kaushal Agarwal.
To cool down the temperature that was raised by the Flames, the next performance was by the Crescendo Collective who in a comic way presented a beautiful mashup created by them for the teachers. The fact that they all performed as solo yet managed to present the whole performance as a group that to in sync was simply mesmerizing. The vocals of the medley performed were by Simran Pandey. Sreyasi Karan, Madhuban Das, Harshita Agarwal, Bikramjit Das, Somankit Ghoshal, Janvi Agrahari, Bhaskarjyoti Deka while the music was by Bikramjit Das, mixed by Bhaskarjyoti Deka. The performance also consisted of a guest appearance as a teacher by Samrat Ghosh.
To keep up with the vibe set forth by Crescendo, the BA, B.Sc and B.Com department together dedicated a poetry written by Sanjana Lall, one of the students of BESC. As aptly said in the poem recited by Nikita Mittal, Ramsha Tuba, Anjali Dubey, Kashish Burman
and Sanjana Lall, the teachers indeed taught us to envision our future, to get back up every time we fall down, to look beyond the books and to keep moving forward and to look beyond the languages and be united.
While the performances by students came to an end, the last segment was dedicated to Late Prof. Divyesh Shah whom we lost during the beginning of pandemic, who was looked up to by all the students at the college.
The whole programme was of 40 mins conducted virtually but it never did feel so. Needless to say, the programme was highly engaging, entertaining, filled with fun and bought back a lot of memories.
The student coordinator of the programme was Keshav Kedia while the report has been written by Kashish Burman.
