Prof. (Dr) Amites Mukhopadhyay, Department of Sociology, Jadavpur University was invited to speak on this subject. Prof. Mukhopadhyay gave a detailed description on the development of this sub discipline, Sociology of Environment, and spoke in length how this specialised field of enquiry emphasises upon the interrelationship and interaction between human beings and the natural environment. He explained the relevance as well as the importance of studying and understanding the environment to enable human beings to act and react responsibly.
Prof Mukhopadhyay also touched upon the growing environmental concerns worldwide and suggested ways and methods that we as responsible citizens should incorporate in our lives.
