Brief Description of the Activity: The Department of Mathematics of The Bhawanipur Education Society College celebrated National Mathematics Day on 21st December 2024, with the theme “Mathematics in Modern Era.” The event began with a warm welcome address by the convenor, followed by an insightful speech by the Teacher-in-Charge, who emphasized the importance of mathematics in contemporary society, highlighting its relevance in technological advancements and real-world problem-solving.
The event featured a keynote lecture by Prof. Koushik Ghosh from the University Institute of Technology, University of Burdwan. Prof. Ghosh delivered an engaging session on the pivotal role of mathematics in artificial intelligence and machine learning, explaining how mathematical frameworks underlie the algorithms powering these technologies. He shared real-world applications, including predictive modeling and data analysis, inspiring students to explore the interdisciplinary nature of the field. Another highlight was an alumnus talk by Ms. Faliha Begum, who discussed the application of linear algebra in robotics.
