The Department of Sociology of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, had organised a field trip at Alipore Museum with the students of semester V (CBCS) and semester III (CCF). The field trip was conducted in relation to field work based component in the core paper of ‘Research Methods’ (CBCS) and Skill Enhancement (SEC) paper on ‘Academic Writing’ in semester V (CBCS) and III (CCF) respectively. The students had conducted surveys on seperate topics in the museum for writing a field report.
In the museum, they came to learn about the history of Alipore Correctional Home, Panopticon Model as a form of Prison architecture, the incidents fo martyrdom of the freedom fighters convicted in the Correctional Home, histories of rigorous imprisonment of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Rishi Aurobindo, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Bidhan Chandra Roy and other leaders of the national struggle for independence. The Police museum within the compound was useful to learn in about the various conspiracy cases filed against the freedom fighters by the colonial government. Contribution of female freedom fighters of Bengal at various times in the national struggle for independence was also important to learn about women participation in the freedom movement. A part of the museum recreated the prison lifestyle of the convicts of pre-independent India to help the visitors experience the brutality of imprisonment.
Through this field visit the students learnt about the techniques of field research, report writing and the significance of museum as an institution of preserving the rich socio-political history of the nation. A few photographs of the field trip are attached herewith for your kind perusal.

(Chowringhee Branch) Kolkata. 263 boys and 97 girls participated in the tournament. The Tournament was held on knockout basis and was also the selection’s for the College Badminton Team 2015-16.
