Objective of the event: The objective of the workshop was to provide school and college students with hands-on training in experimental physics, enabling them to explore fundamental physical laws through simple experiments. It aimed to enhance scientific skills, encourage creative thinking, and inspire students to take interest in the pursuit of physical sciences in their future academic journey.
Brief description of the event: The Department of Physics, The B.E.S. College, in collaboration with the Seminar Committee (Science Section) and in association with the IQAC, organized a One Day Skill Enhancement Workshop on Experimental Physics: 2025 on 1st September 2025 in the Physics Laboratory (Room 2306). The workshop was conducted from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM and Mr. Krishnendu Chakrabartty was facilitated as the resource person and trainer of this workshop.
The programme was attended by 33 students from 8 different schools in Kolkata, 5 Semester I students of The B.E.S. College, 4 school teachers, one retired Faculty from SINP, and the faculty members of the Physics Department. The workshop was designed with 9 indigenous experiments, through which the students gained hands-on experience with fundamental physical laws. They explored basic concepts of physics through simple yet effective experiments and were trained in experimental design, problem-solving, and teamwork. The activities encouraged students to apply their imagination, creativity, and collaborative skills in practical situations.
Outcome of the event: The workshop successfully provided participants with practical exposure to physics experiments and enhanced their understanding of physical concepts. Students gained confidence in experimental design and problem-solving, while also developing collaborative and analytical skills. The workshop inspired participants to take greater interest in the study of physics and achieved its goal of stimulating curiosity and scientific inquiry among young learners.
The College’s collective Vox Populi organised a debate session for the newbies! The students were given the topic “I was born intelligent, education made me a fool.” The present system of education somehow hinders students to think beyond the facts.
