An interactive session on ‘Fundamentals of statistics in communication research’ was organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, The Bhawanipur Education Society College on 25th & 26th November 2022. The keynote speaker of this workshop was Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor, of Sister Nibedita Government General Degree College for Girls, Kolkata. This workshop was mainly organized for the final-year students to help them enhance their knowledge and expertise for the forthcoming dissertation. This workshop facilitated a comprehensive understanding of statistical tools and their usage.
On the first day of the workshop, students got a clear idea about the basics of statistics. The focus was driven by different kinds of diagrams, and how to calculate the mean median and mode. On the second day, students learned how to measure central tendency, standard deviation, regression, frequency polygon, correlation, and histogram. This two-day workshop came to an end with a detailed discussion about how can we efficiently determine sample size, and what is hypothesis testing, followed by a doubt-clearing session. The session was enriching for the students and it ended with an interactive session between the resource person and the students.
