The Department of Film Studies, The Bhawanipur Education Society College, in collaboration with Lumiere: The BESC Film Club and IQAC, organized an educational trip to the Dasani 2 Studio, located near Garia in the southern part of Kolkata on 18th September 2022. The participant list consisted of 21 students from semester 3 and 5, supervised by Mr. Supratik Sur Roy, CWTT from the Film Studies department who was the coordinator for this trip. The objective of the trip was to give the students a first-hand exposure to industrial filmmaking practices.
The production team who was contacted belonged to Kichukhan Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. who were shooting a song and dance sequence on the said date for their upcoming film titled “Shubho Bijoya” directed by young filmmaker Rohan Sen. The timing for the trip was fixed during post-lunch session which agreed upon mutually. The college had arranged for pick up and drop facilities from the campus. The students were also asked accordingly to report at the college premises at 2 pm. The journey was on schedule and without any hassle.
On reaching the studio location, the students excitedly took a tour of the premises including the floor, the shooting area, the light zone, etc. Due to commercial constraints taking photographs or recording videos were strictly prohibited at the shooting premises. However, the cast and crew were more than amicable in their interaction with the students, answering their queries and clarifying their doubts, despite their pressing timetable. Even though the initial plan was to stay at the studio till 5:30 pm, the enthusiasm and excitement of students pushed the time by almost an hour. The return journey took slightly longer due to the Sunday evening traffic. Some of the students got down at the Rabindra Sadan metro station and bus came back with the rest, reporting back at college at around 8 pm.
On successful conclusion of the field trip, both the Department of Film Studies and Lumiere: The BESC Film Club, would like to extend their gratitude to the college authorities and the Vice-principal, Arts for their support and encouragement for such initiatives. We look forward to more such activities in the future.
