True to its traditions of inclusiveness, BESC honours the services of the members of its non-teaching staff making sure that the vibrant hues of Holi add a dash of colours to lives dedicated to the institution and the cause of the students it espouses. In its inimitable way, the institution celebrates Fagun – the harbinger of Spring, of renewal of vows and the appreciation of the dedication of its staff – with flower petals, abhorring the use of artificial colours in a Campus that is as green as Nature herself.
“Fagun represents the spirit of Holi. The spirit of blending, the spirit of togetherness. And what better occasion can we have to show our appreciation of the tremendous work that is done by the members of our staff” asked Prof. Dilip Shah, the Dean of Student Affairs of BESC rhetorically. “Fagun is also our way of communicating to our students the value of hard work, the dignity of labour; which is perhaps as important in life as earning one’s bread, if not more. It is also an effort to inculcate the need to be humane, to learn how to respect age irrespective of everything else”.
One hundred and fifty members of the staff were felicitated on the occasion by the students and teachers with gift hampers being presented as a mark of appreciation. Dr Dan, the Rector of the college joined ProfShah, in handing over the gifts to members of the staff, some of whom were visibly emotional at the gesture of being treated as Guests of Honour in what has been the Karm-bhomi for life.
Students had organised a variety programme to mark the occasion, whose highlight was two dance recitals choregraphed exclusively by Flames the dance vertical of BESC, for the staff members. Sanjay Sanam, a professional “Hasya Kavi” specially invited to lighten up the proceedings did just that, to the delight of the audience. However, the evening was carried off by the music teacherSouravGoswami, whose melodious renditions got the 200 odd members of the BESC family – staff, teachers and students, on their feet.
Originally scheduled to be held in the Turf, the event was relocated to the 6th floor auditorium in record time when rain sought to play spoilsport. However, even the torrents that followed could not dampen the spirit of the festivities as BESC honoured its silent achievers. The entire programme was organised by the students, with Prof MinakshiChaturvedi conducting the event to flawless perfection.
