Objective of the activity: To provide experiential learning through cultural exposure and understanding of tourism-based economic activities.
Brief description of the activity: An excursion to Pelling and Ravangla in Sikkim was organized by the Department of Commerce UG(Afternoon & Evening) & PG for the students of B.Com (Afternoon and Evening) and M.Com. The group commenced the journey from Sealdah Station on 25th November 2025, arriving at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) on the following morning, and proceeded towards Pelling. During the excursion, students visited several notable sightseeing locations including Khechuperi Lake, Kanchenjunga Waterfalls, Rimbi Waterfalls, Rimbi River, Orange Garden, and the Skywalk in Pelling. The team further explored Ravangla, where they visited Buddha Park, Namchi Char Dham, and Temi Tea Garden, gaining insights into the regional cultural heritage and eco-tourism initiatives. Alongside enjoying breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga mountain range, students experienced real-world learning in areas such as hospitality services, tour operations, local entrepreneurship, and sustainable tourism. The journey also strengthened communication skills, teamwork, decision-making, and adaptability among the students.
Outcome of the activity: The excursion enriched students’ knowledge and personal growth by providing first-hand exposure to tourism-driven economic development and ecological sustainability. It enhanced teamwork, adaptability, and problem-solving skills while improving cultural awareness and environmental sensitivity. The trip also supported peer bonding and successfully combining learning with recreation for a meaningful overall experience.
