The Department of Electronics conducted a one-day educational tour to Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM), Kolkata on 30thSeptember, 2019.Four faculty members guided eighteen students throughout the tour. The science hall comprised of individual sections dedicated to scientific disciplines like physics, chemistry and biology and the students tried out various experiments by themselves to understand various principles underlying common natural and artificial phenomena around them. The communication and broadcast section in the BITM is dedicated to various devices and equipments used in erstwhile radio and television communication and presented a real historical perspective into the primeval stage of wireless communication in India and in particular, the World. Even, this section housed cameras used during World Wars I and II ! The students learned a lot about mechanical properties of matter, light, optics and electronics as they took part in a physical science show conducted within the premise of BITM. A make shift coal mine in BITM further enriched our knowledge about the hazards of life in mines and the various scientific principles which are utilized in ensuring life and safety of miners below the surface of earth.
