What makes case studies so successful? How does case studies help one to think beyond?
Well, all these questions were raised and answered on Friday, 20th August 2021, 3pm onwards, when EcoFor BE-ites collective of The Bhawanipur Education Society College in association with IBS ICFAI Business School conducted a session on “CASE STUDIES & MORE”.
The speaker for the session was Prof. Muralidhara GV who is currently positioned as Campus head and director, IBS ICFAI Business School, Bangalore. He is a Mechanical Engineer, PGDM and Gold Medalist from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and a Chartered Financial Analyst with an industry experience of more than 29 years and has held several senior positions in reputed public sector and private sector organizations. Prior to his stint as Campus Head at IBS Bangalore, he was the Dean-Case Research Centre at IBS Hyderabad. In this position, he led a team of talented case writers at the globally renowned Centre of excellence, which won several international awards and accomplishments. Prof. Muralidhara has authored/co-authored more than one hundred case studies in management. Several of these have won awards at international competitions and are also reprinted in international textbooks. He has been a jury member for several competitions and is a viewer for many international conferences. He has conducted many faculties development workshops as well as Management Development Programs.
The session began at 3 PM sharp with introductory speech by Prof. Dilip Shah, Dean of Student Affairs, The Bhawanipur Education Society College. With more than 95 participants, post welcome speech, floor was handed over to Prof. Muralidhara GV who immediately began with an interactive session on the case study on India in Olympics, pre-provided to all the participating students. With multiple QnAs on the case question, the interactive segment continued for a total of 30 minutes before the participants were divided into 10 breakout groups of 10 students each. Each group was assigned the task to figure out solutions to the three questions pre-provided in the case and present their ideas and solutions post 10 minutes of the breakout session. During the breakout session of 10 minutes, each room was highly interactive with each other, discussing and planning on the solution to the case study.
After 10 minutes, each group presented a unique solution and enlightened all with their ideas. Overall, the participants learnt to look beyond, think differently and to respect each other’s ideas and opinions via the breakout session.
The session came to its last segment with Prof. Muralidhara GV, informing the participants on the benefits of case studies and when they should take up a case. The unconventional workshop segment on Case Studies & More ended with a vote of thanks from student coordinator Kashish Burman with participants stating their satisfaction and gratitude in the chat box. The volunteers for the event were Vanshika Jain, Arpana Gupta, Hardik Vora.
