The Department of Political Science of The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised a workshop entitled “Adulting 101: How to be an Adult”, a series of 12 engaging sessions aimed at equipping young college students with essential life skills. This workshop was approved by the IQAC of the college and covered various aspects and skills necessary for thriving in the adult world. The sessions included were:
Session 1: Nuances of Communication
Resource Person: Ms. Arundhati Mazumdar, Corporate Communications Trainer and Faculty at The BESC
Participants gained insights into effective communication techniques and the importance of interpersonal interactions.
Session 2: Digital Hygiene in the Digital Age
Resource Person: Mr. Joydeep Das Gupta, Google News Initiative Trainer; Editor, NewsSense
Participants learned to discern between misinformation and disinformation, developing skills to protect themselves in the digital realm.
Session 3: Dressing Appropriately
Resource Persons: Mr. Rajkiran Dass and Ms. Nabanita Biswas, Faculties from Bhawanipur Design Academy
Participants discovered the art of dressing appropriately, learning various methods to wear a tie, drape a saree, wear a dhoti, and develop their own fashion sense.
Session 4: Navigating AI and Machine Learning Applications
Resource Person: Mr. Vivek George Koshy, Artificial Intelligence Expert; Consultant, Accenture
Participants explored the practical applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, discovering how emerging technologies can enhance efficiency in daily tasks.
Session 5: Self Management Techniques using Social and Emotional Intelligence
Resource Person: Ms. Salony Priya, Mental Health Expert; Founder and Director, Ummeed
Participants delved into self-awareness and stress management techniques, improving their emotional well-being and personal development.
Session 6: Financial Literacy
Resource Person: Mr. Ankit Patwari, Chartered Accountant; Faculty, Department of Commerce, The BESC
Participants learned essential financial skills, including banking fundamentals, investment considerations, and personal and family budgeting.
Session 7: Laws in Everyday Life
Resource Person: Dr. Vaneeta Patnaik, Associate Professor of Law, WBNUJS
Participants gained insights into basic laws related to personal safety, family rights, dealing with legal entities, and exercising their democratic rights.
Session 8: PowerPoint, Presentations, and Miscellaneous Aspects
Resource Person: Mr. Karan Vora, Public Speaking Trainer and Faculty member of the Department of Political Science, The BESC
Participants acquired skills in effective time management, Microsoft tools, and ICT tools for delivering impactful presentations.
Session 9: Dealing with Emergencies
Resource Person: Captain Aditya Raj, The BESC NCC Unit
Participants learned essential emergency response techniques, including earthquake preparedness, handling accidents, and managing various exigencies.
Session 10: Basics of Employment and Human Resource Management
Resource Person: Ms. Pritha Chanda, Human Resource Professional, Faculty member of the Business Administration Department of The BESC
Participants explored various employment types, employment rights, interview skills, and methods to enhance employability.
Session 11: Photography and Videography
Resource Person: Mr. Sanmitra Dutta, Media expert; Faculty from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication
Participants learned techniques to capture and present impactful images and videos to effectively communicate their ideas.
Session 12: Essentials of Health
Resource Person: Dr. Shahrukh Raza, Medical Expert
Participants received valuable guidance on maintaining overall health, dispelling common health myths, and adopting a healthy lifestyle.
The workshop received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the participants, who expressed their gratitude for the knowledge and experiences they gained. Participants appreciated the interactive nature of the sessions, the expertise of the resource persons, and the practical relevance of the topics covered. The Workshop was coordinated by Karan Vora. More than 30 students completed the workshop and received their certificates and mementos from Prof. Amala Dhandhania, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science on 17th May, 2023.
