Brief description of the event: The Department of Computer Science, The Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC), organized its first-ever Inter-College Tech & Gaming Fest, e-Utopia 1.0, on 12th and 13th December 2025. The event was conceptualized as a student-driven initiative to promote technical competence, innovation, entrepreneurship, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skill development among undergraduate students. The fest attracted enthusiastic participation from students across several reputed colleges in Kolkata, creating a competitive yet collaborative academic environment.
The successful execution of the fest was supported by esteemed industry partners who played a crucial role in strengthening its scale and outreach. Data Chef and Kaara – by Ranjita Sheth joined as Platinum Sponsors, presenting the event and contributing ₹20,000 towards its organization. Their support enabled the fest to offer a professional platform for student engagement and competition. The event was further powered by Gold Sponsors H.R. Synergies and AK-SFX, who contributed ₹15,000, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to industry-academia collaboration. Tardis was associated with the fest as the Event Title Sponsor for the Business Idea Pitching Competition, “Synapse,” also reflecting industry support for student entrepreneurship and innovation.
A major highlight of the fest was “Game of Wits,” the inter-college debate competition, which was judged by Prof. Kakoli Sengupta, Professor, Department of International Relations, Jadavpur University. Participants were evaluated on clarity of thought, depth of argument, logical reasoning, rebuttal skills, and overall presentation. The competition witnessed intense and intellectually stimulating exchanges. Suhana Singh from BESC (Economics) secured the First Prize, winning ₹2,500, while Mayank Paul from BESC (Computer Science) won the Second Prize with ₹1,500.
The Business Idea Pitching Competition – “Synapse” was evaluated by a distinguished panel comprising Dr. Abhijit Banerjee, Chief Advisor, Hilliant Research and Technology Pvt. Ltd.; Mr. Santanu Hazra, Director, Debtkart Settlend Legal Advisors LLP; and Mr. Saumyadipta Ghosh, HR Director, Hilliant Research and Technology Pvt. Ltd. Participants presented innovative business ideas focusing on feasibility, originality, scalability, and social relevance. Saswata Halder from Asutosh College (Computer Science) won the First Prize and received ₹5,000. The Second Prize of ₹3,000 was awarded to Rudra Ojha and Tanish Jain from BESC (B.Com.), while Piyush Kumar from Heritage Institute of Technology secured the Third Prize with ₹1,000.
The competitive coding event, “A Glitch in the Matrix,” saw participation from 61 students and tested algorithmic thinking and problem-solving skills. Sourab Kumar and Prince Kumar from Heritage Institute of Technology won the First Prize with ₹5,000. The Second Prize of ₹3,000 was awarded to Koena Chatterjee (BESC) and Indraneel Bose (IIT Patna), while Shirsak Majumder from Heritage Institute of Technology won the Third Prize, receiving ₹2,000. This event was conducted on the online platform CodeChef. This event was held on 10th and 11th December 2025.
The chess competition, “iQ²,” attracted 26 participants and showcased strategic depth and concentration. Naveen Thapa from St. Thomas College of Engineering won the First Prize with ₹3,000, followed by Ayush Kumar Singh from BESC (Mathematics Department), who secured the Second Prize and ₹2,000.
The gaming event “Hack & Hustle” witnessed high enthusiasm, with Daksh Patawari, Vineet Khaitan, Sanskar Mehta, and Amit Kumar Yadav from BESC (B.Com.) winning the First Prize of ₹5,000.
The speed-cubing event “Rubix³” was won by Joy Sengupta from Scottish Church College (Computer Science), who received ₹2,500.
Overall, e-Utopia 1.0 successfully fulfilled its objectives by combining academic rigor with experiential learning. The event not only enhanced technical and intellectual competencies but also strengthened students’ communication, leadership, and organizational skills. As the inaugural edition, it laid a strong foundation for establishing e-Utopia as a flagship annual inter-college event of the Department of Computer Science, BESC.
