KNOCKOUT 3.0

Boxing is one of the only combat sports to have found its roots in ancient times of almost all cultures known to mankind as a hand-to-hand combat sport, which involves extreme coordination of footwork and body movement to successfully launch powerful strikes with their arms that aim to harm the individual on the receiving end. So on the 25th and 26th of April 2025, The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised the third edition of Knockout, the college’s very own Inter-college boxing tournament that saw amazing participation from over 10 colleges and over 40 participants, including both male and female fighters. The event focused on providing a platform for experienced as well as new boxers to interact with each other and gain more exposure about the sport by exchanging blows.

The event commenced on the 25th at 4:00 P.M. under the guidance of Coach Mr. Ashutosh Kumar Jha. With a short introductory speech from the coach, the Centre Juror, Mr. Montu Das, was introduced along with the referees for the event, which also included a world champion, Mr. Kingshuk Saha. The mic was then handed over to the judge, who motivated and boosted the spirit of the participants, encouraging more students to join the sport as it was not just about competition but also for general fitness. After the brief introductions; the Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah joined Prof. Minakshi Chaturvedi and Coach Ashutosh Kumar Jha to inaugurate the ring, which was followed by a short inaugural boxing match between Dean, Prof. Shah and the Center Juror, Mr. Montu Das.

The sun came down as the first match was about to begin, and the referee calmly explained the rules as the fighters were introduced. The fighters were divided into 14 weight categories for each gender. Each round would be 2 minutes long, with two rounds for each qualifier fight and three rounds for each final fight. Fighters were not allowed to hit in any vital areas, such as below the belt or the back of the head, which would lead to immediate disqualification. They would be divided into red and blue corners as per the colour of their gloves.

The gong rang announcing the fight open, and almost instantly the ring floor rumbled as blows from either fighter came raining down, with each powerful strike making noise in the air as both of the individuals exchanging blows seemed almost as if they were having a conversation with their fists, each reply equally menacing. The turf lit up with colourful lights, curious eyes from almost all the floors and gasps and cheers of the audience, which did much to encourage the fighters.

Matches of the male category continued with aggression and amazing sportsmanship, with calm and diplomatic interactions between the fighters. The female category was no less, bringing more, if not less, aggression and enthusiasm to the competition as the fights went down, with the audience and other spectators only growing in numbers as the fighters only gained more cheers from each side.

Finally, after all the matches came to an end, the most awaited part of the whole event was announced, which were King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring fights, where the current winning fighters compete against each other to gain the title of king or queen of the ring. The event perfectly served its purpose as both fights and the audience got amped up to witness what was the star spectacle of the night.

The gong rang to start the fights, with it being the last fights of the whole competition, everyone had their eyes fixed as spotlights marked the battling gladiators exchanging blows face to face. With the third and final gong ringing, it marked the end of the overall competition, which was followed by a prize distribution ceremony.

The winners and achievers were recognised and awarded by the centre juror, Mr. Montu Das and coach Mr. Ashutosh Kumar Jha.
