“My life had been a constant struggle against my mother forcing sandwiches down my throat, to the extent that I grew a terrible aversion to them. Yes, I hated them, till I took part in the Seva Sandwich programme last year, when I realised what that one sandwich means to the hungry” said a first year B.Com student, who volunteered for the BESC Seva Sandwich initiative, which was organised by the NSS wing of the college under the aegis of Dr Divyesh, Shah.
Students raised contributions from amongst themselves and the college paid the rest even as a sumptuous spread of healthy sandwiches were prepared. Student volunteers from the college visited the nearby slum areas where the sandwiches were distributed among those who are less fortunate and crave for our hand of help and support. All together about 50 Be-ites participated in the event.
“I am overwhelmed by the way the students of the college have come forward, paying heed to their inner call, to make this initiative such a huge success” said Dr Shah, obviously overwhelmed. Students are extremely keen to replicate the event many times over around the year and we are currently working out the modalities to reach out to those who are less fortunate than we are”.
