With the Placement Drive drawing closer, The Bhawanipur Education Society College offered its students an opportunity to improve their prospects of securing a position. The workshop was held at the Society Hall on 20th May 2024 from 11:00 A.M. till noon which was conducted by Prof. Urvi Shukla, a certified career coach by NCDA & Career Development Alliance(USA), is also a guide and educator while a faculty of the Commerce Morning Department at BESC. The workshop began with Prof. Shukla addressing the audience with the importance of a Curriculum Vitae and the minor details that affect the overall score of candidates.
The workshop consisted of a PPT with 9 slides providing the audience with beneficial information regarding the potential areas in an interview that would help create a great impression on the interviewer. In her visual presentation, she made a list of suggestions for the students to help create positive impressions, such as conducting background research on the interested companies to know their ethos, examining the job requirements to determine if they align with their respective personalities and long-term objectives, and discussing basic etiquette for an interview such as opening with a greeting and maintaining a correct body posture. In the other half of the workshop, she discussed the best practices, and the do’s and don’ts in an interview that can make or break the chances of getting selected. She furthermore pointed out the need for preparation in an online interview which included having a quiet place, dressing formally, and having a high-speed internet connection. Finally, she imparted to students a list of questions that could be asked during the interview and advised them to prepare the answers in advance.
Before concluding the session, she instructed the students not to discuss and negotiate the remuneration during an interview. The workshop ended with Prof. Shukla answering questions raised by the audience after which the students thanked her for her time and guidance. As the college aims to broaden the scope of placement for students, workshops such as these become a need of the hour to equip interviewees with the right tools.
