“Being a student is easy. Learning requires actual work.”
Like the above saying suggests, true learning cannot be achieved without putting hard- work and effort. But, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the students and the teachers are bound to stay at home. But, to make sure that the learning remains unhindered in such trying times, The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized a Webinar on Dividend Policy on 14th April, 2020. The entire seminar was conducted online, hence it was called a “webinar”. The webinar started at 5.00 pm and continued till 6.30 pm.

The event began with a brief introduction of the esteemed faculty present online, consisting of the members of The Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI) EIRC, and the chief speaker for the seminar CA Santha Krishnan. Then, the Dean of the college, Prof. Dilip Shah gave an introductory speech followed by a few words spoken by Mr. Pallab Ghosh on the main speaker for the event, CA Santha Krishnan. The session began with the speaker giving a brief introduction about what is a dividend policy and its outcomes in the present market situations. He then discussed about the various dividend policy models – Walter’s Model, Gordon Model, MM Model – and explained, that if used efficiently, how these may help a company to grow. He also explained the various reasons why we, as investors, should invest our funds in them. He highlighted the fact that how investing in established companies was more profitable than ever.
Shortly afterwards, he put light on the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic and discussed its effects on the Indian economy and explained how this may result in the birth of a new business age and a whole new market investment plan. He then suggested how right it was to make a long-term investment in times like this in order to receive higher returns in future. Then, a questionnaire on the dividend policy was conducted.
Further in the seminar, the chief speaker, CA Santha Krishnan talked about the importance of career planning and discussed the various pros and cons of choosing Chartered Accountant (CA) as a career. To discuss this more clearly, Prof. Dilip Shah introduced CA Harim Ram Agarwal and the chairman of the EIRC Mr. Ritesh Morai and his connection to chartered accountants.
The event gradually came to an end with a full-blown discussion on career planning and Chartered Accountancy course which proved to be very informative. One such useful information that came to the knowledge of the various students virtually present in the seminar was that the ICAI holds its placements twice a year. A total of more than 220 students were virtually present for the seminar and were benefitted by the discussions that took place.
The webinar finally ended with Prof. Dilip Shah thanking the esteemed faculty for taking out their precious time and the event coordinator, Gaurav Killa, for his help and support. He assured the students about the organization of similar webinars in the future for the benefit of the students. Likewise Prof. Dilip Shah mentioned, webinars indeed are an excellent use of technology and the future of education and learning.
