A Students’ Seminar on “Cultural Kaleidoscope: Viewing the Everyday Life” was organised on 11th November 2022 by the Department of Sociology. The seminar was held forward by a paper presentation competition among the students from different departments. The daylong seminar ended with a captivating questions and answers round and announcement of the rank holders. Students received certificates and prizes for participating in the competition as well as for winning the same. Invited judges for the event were Prof. Madhumita sen, Department of Sociology, General Degree College for Girls, Ekbalpur(Calcutta University) and Prof. Dalia Chakraborty, Department of Sociology, Jadavpur University. The seminar was divided in two consecutive sessions with a short lunch break and the sessions were moderated by Prof. Lopamudra Majumdar from Political science department and Prof. Arup Ratan Samajdar from Film Studies department, Bhawanipur Education Society College, which made the sessions more captivating for the audiences as well as the presenters.
The aim of the seminar was to explore various perspectives of culture and its relationship with the everyday life and the selected papers to be presented revolved around the issues on Gender and Culture, Media and Visual culture, Folk culture and everyday life, Religion as a cultural system, Globalisation and Culture, Youth- Lifestyle and culture etc. Total 18 participants’ abstracts were selected for the final presentation in the seminar, the winners were selected from them. The winners were selected based on criteria such as their PPT, Communication skills with the audience, style of presentation, how well they can portray their thoughts, their analytical thinking through their presentations etc. After each session a Questions and Answers session was held which was amazingly engaging for the audiences, the students as well as the teachers very enthusiastically participated in the interaction with the presenters. The last half of the session ended with the announcement of the winners along with the comments and views of the respectable Judges about the mentioned topic of the seminar.
It could be concluded that the entire session was rather fascinating as well as informative.
