The Sports and Athletics felicitation meet ‘Rings of Hope’ celebrated the sporting achievements of our students for the academic year 2024–25, honouring their dedication, discipline, and talent across 29 events.
The programme began with the ceremonial lamp lighting by dignitaries, symbolising unity, energy, and enlightenment.
Under the visionary leadership of Prof. Dilip Shah, Rector & Dean of Students’ Affairs, the inaugural address beautifully bridged Friendship Day and Sports Felicitation Day, quoting Nelson Mandela’s words on the unifying power of sports and sharing nostalgic dressing-room anecdotes that drew heartfelt smiles.
The highlight of the day was an emotional gesture by our Chief Guest, Mr. Laxmi Ratan Shukla — former Indian cricketer & coach of the Bengal Ranji Trophy Team — who, moved by Dean Sir’s words, draped his ceremonial uttariya over him as a mark of respect. The hall resonated with applause for this unforgettable moment.
The Chief Guest was felicitated by Prof. Dilip Shah, Mr. Jitendra Shah, Joint Secretary & Mr. Umesh Ramesh Thakkar, President, Ex-Students’ Association (Shishya Prathishthan)
Mr. Thakkar’s rendition of “Phoolon ka taaron ka…” struck a chord with the audience, while special gratitude was extended to Mr. Ashok Verma for facilitating the Chief Guest’s visit.
The Vote of Thanks, delivered by Mr. Jitendra Shah, acknowledged the collective effort behind the ceremony.
Special appreciation goes to our impeccably trained student volunteers, whose professionalism ensured smooth execution from start to finish, as well as to our dedicated coaches:
Mr. Manpreet Singh Grewal – Basketball
Mr. Sunil Pandey – Cricket
Mr. Pratap Senapati – Football
Mr. Swarup Ghosh – Kabaddi
Mr. Asutosh Kumar Jha – Chessboxing
The department also credits the hard work of Sports Officers Mr. Manikant Choudhary, Mr. Rupesh Gandhi, and Mr. Bhavin Parmar, along with the invaluable support of staff members Mr. Sashikant Mukhiya, Mr. Dev Kumar Das, Ms. Aparna Ghosh, and Ms. Arpita Maji.
The day ended with a grand buffet lunch at Valia Hall for over 285 attendees — a fitting close to a celebration of sportsmanship, friendship, and the BESC spirit.
