“Everything we see on the internet is a piece of content.”
The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized an insightful session on “ How to promote yourself on Social Media” on 1st September 2023 at 10:30 am in the Society Hall of the college campus. The guest speaker of the session was Mr. Deepak Pareek, a renowned social media influencer, entrepreneur, and founder of Iceberg Creations, a broadcasting, and media production company. The session kickstarted with the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah addressing the students. He emphasized just how important social media branding has become now more than ever, when social media is also contributing to the country’s GDP, elaborating on his personal experiences as well.
Later, Mr. Pareek went on to have an informal discussion on content, variables of personal branding, and the dynamics that make a brand reach out to a content creator. This was followed by a Q&A session where the students had the opportunity to seek guidance from the expert himself. The students were also told about the benefits of content creation, the key reasons being the fact that the profession is location agnostic, it leaves room for wealth creation and there is no downside to creating content. This was a big motivation for the students to start their social media journey immediately. The students were made familiar with an interesting case study of Michael. B. Jordan and his collaboration with a famous brand to understand what made it legendary and how transformative and powerful branding and marketing proved to be.
During the Q&A session, he went on to explain how platforms differ with respect to different brand identities, recognizing what works best for a particular brand and how consistency plays a major role in the growth of a brand. He emphasized the ‘you first’ theory of social media marketing which primarily revolves around audience interactions and value addition by the creator making it a two-way street. The process also ensures that one does not just have a brand but also a community. The students hence learned that social media was beyond mere posts and captions, but also various technical intricacies contribute to the success of a personal brand. The session came to an end with the speaker, Mr. Deepak Pareek leaving the students with an important life lesson that ‘learning comes from embarrassment’ and there is no alternative to it.
