The SWAYAM-NPTEL Committee of The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized a “One day workshop on development of MOOC Course” in collaboration with Educational Multimedia and Research Centre (EMRC), Kolkata on 12th June, 2023.This workshop was convened by Dr. Pinki Saha Sardar along with Joint Convenors Dr. Arnab Gangopadhyay and Dr. Utsa Das. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Pinki Saha Sardar, Vice Principal (Science), Single Point of Contact (SPOC). The workshop was attended by 47 faculty members from Commerce, Science, Arts and Management sections of the college. The distinguished speaker and expert for the workshop Mr. Kalipad Mondal (Producer, EMRC, Kolkata) elaborated to the participants various aspects of developing Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). The Workshop started with an introduction to the emergence of MOOCs and their growing importance in contemporary times, especially when our educational system is at a crossroads to major changes brought in by the NEP 2020.
The resource person, Mr. Mondal , Producer of the Educational Multimedia Research Centre, (EMRC, Kolkata) discussed the process by which MOOCs are prepared, approved, programmed and delivered, particularly with the example of the SWAYAM platform. The various benefits of development of courses by the faculties of the college and benefits to the college were discussed. The guidelines, format and process of making a MOOC was discussed by the expert speaker, with relevant examples of recently run courses on the platform. The speaker, from his vast experience as a Producer at the EMRC, Kolkata which is under the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC) also gave helpful tips and ideas to the participants on making courses which can get faster and smoother approval.
The participants interacted and asked many questions and got many doubts cleared about the process involved in making and developing MOOCs. The Teacher-In-Charge, Dr. Subhabrata Ganguly and Dean of Science, Dr. Samir Kanti Datta were also present for the workshop. Dr. Jashomoti Ghose, member of the SWAYAM NPTEL Committee gave the vote of thanks.
