“Life is a Marathon, not a sprint. It’s about taking a bigger-picture approach.”
With the onset of winter, The Bhawanipur Education Society College in association with the Hindusthan Club, hosted a Marathon in the heart of the city. This was also a part of the FIT India Week, Day 2 where the goal was to signify the importance of running as it is amongst the best strategies for keeping one’s body in good shape, boosting one’s dopamine levels, ultimately towards a “healthier you!” The Marathon was conducted on Sunday, the 10th of December, 2023 where the student fraternity & the faculty of the college were encouraged to run together in a power-packed fitness mode. Everyone reported to the Hindusthan Club at 6.00 am to begin the run.
The marathon had three categories from which the participants could select the one that best suited them. Over 200 entries were received, and the participants were as young as seventeen years of age, upto the senior most faculty of the college. The categories of the distances to be covered were three, five, and ten Kms; each starting from the Hindusthan Club. The participants were initiated into the Marathon with warm-up exercises and some energetic music to charge them up in the cold weather. Most of the participants who covered the ten kilometers category were ace runners, athletes & players from the sports department of the college. Everyone received refreshments periodically that enabled them to regain their energy in between marathons.
Following the completion of their respective stretches of run, each person earned a medal for their participation. The spectators cheered for them when they arrived at the end of the first round, encouraging them to complete the run as they made their way to the finish line. En route runners witnessed how the city’s elderly were also running along with them, speaking volumes for how fitness is a matter of strength and not age!
The resounding message resonated across all age groups, emphasizing the crucial need to prioritize one’s health. This resulted in the resounding success of the marathon, undoubtedly igniting a spark of inspiration within every participant to actively monitor their well-being and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Significantly, this event culminated Day 2 of Fit India Week. Simultaneously, as one event concluded, another commenced at the college Turf: a Volleyball day under the guidance of Mr. Soumyadeep Brahmachari, the West Bengal State Junior Coach.
