The Department of Sports held its Intra-College Badminton Tournament with the tagline “Calling all the badminton enthusiasts, SMASH! SERVE! CONQUER!” The Bhawanipur Education Society College has always supported badminton and sports in general, pushing them to greater heights. The level of skill and enthusiasm shown by the athletes has consistently motivated the college to organise such major events, providing opportunities to pursue a career in sports. This intra-college tournament gave both new and existing athletes the chance to compete for a place on the official badminton team, as well as to aspire towards the national team.
The two-day tournament for the singles category was held on the 8th and 9th of September 2025 at the Park Circus Byayam Samity, in a knockout format. Matches were scheduled from 9:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on both days. The tournament was conducted by the Sports Teacher, Mr. Rupesh Gandhi, along with the support staff, and overseen by the umpire, Mr. Tapan Mitra.
Day 1 began with the registration process, which saw around 75 entries (56 boys and 19 girls). Fixtures were created immediately after registration. The athletes were so eager that many began rally practice as soon as their registrations were complete. The main matches then began, with boys’ and girls’ games played simultaneously on two different courts, managed smoothly by the volunteers.
Day 1 consisted of two knockout rounds. Only the winners of Knockout 1 qualified to compete in Knockout 2. The matches were held on professional badminton courts equipped with proper mats, nets, lighting, and all necessary facilities. Knockout 1, played before the break, was an 11-point game. After the break, Knockout 2 began as a 15-point game, where Knockout 1 winners competed against each other. Day 1 concluded with the winners of Knockout 2, who then qualified to participate on the following day.
Day 2 was a special highlight of the tournament, as national players were invited to show their support and compete with the Day 1 winners, raising the level of the matches to new heights. The format for Day 2 was best of three, with each game played to 11 points. Registration for both national players and Day 1 qualifiers took place in the morning, after which the real competition began. The atmosphere was electric, with tense, high-stakes matches unfolding throughout the day. Selected players had the rare opportunity to compete against national-level athletes. Those who performed exceptionally well were considered for selection in the official Bhawanipur Education Society College badminton team, and even for potential opportunities at the national level.
The quarter-finals intensified the competition, with athletes leaving nothing behind on the court. As the semi-finals arrived, matches grew longer and more gripping, with both players pushing each other to their absolute limits. By the time of the finals, the crowd’s anticipation had reached its peak, and every spectator’s eyes were fixed on the court. The final match was a nail-biter, stretching point by point until the much-awaited moment arrived. The game ended, and the winners of the tournament were finally crowned, marking a thrilling conclusion to two days of relentless competition.
In the boys’ category, the top performers were Ayush Sarkar, Aritra Dawan, Arshh Sharma, Archis Mandal, and Arman Kisku. In the girls’ category, the winners included Srijani Mullick, Roshni Singh, Rohini Pradhan, Shreya Anchalia, and Kriti Agarwal. Their dedication, skill, and sportsmanship truly made them stand out, marking them as some of the finest athletes of the tournament.
The event was a great success, discovering new talents and inspiring newcomers to sharpen their skills—whether through experiencing professional badminton or learning true sportsmanship. The coordinator, faculty members, umpire, and volunteers collectively managed the crowd, enforced the rules, and ensured fair play throughout the event.
