“Eyes are the lamps for the body…Better Eyes…. Better Life.”
For any society, its elderly population is a source of great wisdom and pride. As far as the eye health of the seniors is concerned, it is vital to encourage healthy lifestyles that promote eye health in the long term. It is also essential that we ensure that older people have good access to eye care services. For most eye diseases like cataract, Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and glaucoma are more common in the elderly. Comorbidities like diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease increase the risk of age-related eye diseases. Poor vision can result in restricted mobility at a time of life when staying active is crucial to maintain health and quality of life. Considering this The NSS Unit of The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised a free eye check camp “Ikshana2021” at Janma Bhumi Briddhabas, Dakshin Barasat , Joynagar I Block , Pin 743372 in collaboration with Dakshin Barasat Eye Foundation. The objective of the camp was eye check-up and identification of treatment required Cataract Surgeries, Pterygium, Calazium DCT/DCR surgeries etc.
The NSS team of The BESC visited the venue on August 23, 2021 to inspect and to make all the required arrangements for the camp. They visited the Dakshin Barasat Eye Foundation Hospital as well to check the infrastructure and facilities available for the patients.

The volunteers actively did queue management, assisted the doctors and the beneficiaries to run the camp smoothly. We thank the management of college, Prof. Dilip Shah, Prof. Minakshi Chaturvedi for their constant support to conduct the entire project without any hassle. We also thank Prof. Chandan Jha and Prof. Mohit Singh for their active participation in this event. The entire event was an initiative of NSS which was coordinated by Prof. Gargi. We acknowledge her tireless involvement in social work. The students of the college learnt to work as a team and realised how the less fortunate leas their lives.
