Management is a vast subject and reading management literature piques one’s interest in embarking on a management adventure. It has been rightly said, “The only important thing in a book is the meaning it has for you.” Reviewing not only improves one’s skills in analysing and critiquing but also broadens one’s vocabulary.
On the afternoon of November 15th, 2021, The Bhawanipur Education Society College’s Department of Business Administration organised a riveting event titled “The Librarians.”
A group of fifteen passionate students attended the event to share their thoughts and comprehension of the book allotted to them. When the participants arrived on campus for this offline event, necessary safety procedures were taken in light of the prevailing conditions.
Ms Projata Dey Chatterjee was generously asked to evaluate the participants because of her impressive 11-years of expertise as an English Facilitator, Soft Skill and Business Communication Trainer.
She is the Academic Coordinator and Administrator in the renowned and well-known educational institutions of Kolkata. For the last two years, she has been associated with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and India’s leading vocational training- skill development and placement institute ICA Edu Skills Pvt. Ltd. as an English- Business Communication and Soft Skill Faculty. Besides, she is a flawless elocutionist and reciter and a protégé of the queen of elocution Srimati Bratati Bandopadhyay. “Life is a journey to embrace, and you only live once but if you do it right, once is enough”, she says admirably.
Disha Rupani, the event’s Emcee, introduced the judge Ms Projata Dey Chatterjee and explained the competition’s rules and regulations. The participants were assessed on essential diction, author’s analysis, poise, and their interpretation.
From reviewing self-help books like “The 7 habits of highly effective people” by Stephen Covey and “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki to reviewing inspirational and autobiographical books like “Losing my Virginity: the autobiography” by Richard Branson, “Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and “Catalyst” by Chandramouli Venkatesan, all of the participants strove to deliver their perspectives on the book with exuberance. Several reviews offered unique perspectives, such as discussing ‘victimitis excusitis’ while reporting the facts.
The judge, Projata Dey Chatterjee, concluded the event on a positive note by acknowledging all the participants’ endeavours and imparted some valuable and helpful tips and tricks to each participant.
Our esteemed Professor Kaushik Banerjee, the Events Teacher Coordinator, announced the competition’s winner and runner-up.
Alveena Alam, aced the event with her spot-on review on Rules of the Game by Sumit D Chowdhury. She mentioned the impact, the writer’s viewpoint and her learning from the book. Subsequently, Upasana Das secured the second position for prodigious confidence, and Ena De secured the third position for her appropriate review on the book ‘Think and Grow Rich’.
From the Management Department-The Student Presidents, Devjyoti Banerjee and Madhav Mohta, and the Events Teacher Coordinator, Professor Kaushik Banerjee, admirably conducted the entire event. The General Quiz Event Committee Head, Zaynab Sabir and Vineeta Mukherjee, and their Sub-Committee Head, Anusha Akbar, put equal efforts into making the event a successful one.
