A talk on “Freud and Everyday Psychopathology” and Individual Poster Competition for the students of The Bhawanipur Education Society College on Different Issues Related to Mental Health.
The Department of Psychology organized a talk on ‘Freud and Everyday Psychopathology’ on 6th May 2023, to commemorate 167th birth anniversary of Sigmund Freud. The talk was delivered by Dr. Jhelum Poddar, Psychoanalyst, and Assistant Professor of Department of Psychology, Loreto College, at Jubilee Hall, 12.30 pm onwards. The event began with a welcome note by Ms. Vidisha Roy, faculty of Department of Psychology, of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, on Sigmund Frued which was followed by an introductory speech by the Teacher-in-Charge of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, Dr. Subhabrata Gangopadhyay. Ms. Pooja Sengupta, faculty of Department of Psychology, of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, presented a speech to address the keynote speaker and to initiate the beginning of the first session of the event.
Dr Poddar focused on our everyday experiences, parapraxes, and their relation to the human psyche in her talk. She explained to the young audiences that how parapraxes, i.e., inadvertent minute error in everyday life constitutes a part of psychopathology, thereby explaining the existence of unconscious as a part of our mind. The enlightening talk ended with an enriching and interactive question answer session to address different issues related to the topic.
The talk was followed by a display of posters prepared by students from different departments. The poster competition witnessed a wave of curiosity among the students, teachers and our resource person. In the words of Dr Poddar, “concepts when explained through art leaves a great impact on the minds of those who see them”. The poster competition had two winners-one for the Judge’s Choice category and another for the Popular Choice Category. Mr. Abhishek Chandra Das from the department of English and Mr. Adnan Abbas Ansari, from the department of Political Science were the two winners in the two categories respectively. Both winners received their trophies from the respected resource person.
Environmental Development Committeeof The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised a popular lecture on ‘Impact of climate change on the Sundarbans’ by Dr. Sugata Hazra, Professor and Director, School of Oceanographic Studies, Jadavpur University, Kolkata on 19th January 2015 at the 2nd floor auditorium.
