A CV is a person’s chance to make their best first impression at a workplace. CV, is abbreviated as Curriculum Vitae, meaning “Source of Life.” Therefore, The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized a seminar on “How to prepare a CV” for students from all disciplines across all semesters to prepare them for the upcoming Placement Drive on the college campus. The seminar was hosted on 19th April 2024 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon in the Society Hall. A total of 60 attendees seeking guidance on the correct ways to prepare a CV attended the seminar by Career Coach, Educator, and Author, Prof. Urvi Shukla. Prof. Shukla began the workshop by pointing out the difference between a job and a career and how a CV helps to get an ideal job. She defined a CV as a professional document summing up an individual’s work history, education, and skills. In her words, a CV needs to be interesting with the correct set of information in it.
Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah, joined the seminar where he presented a few thoughts and quoted that “Success generally comes to people who plan their final destination, and it is the ordinary people who do extraordinary jobs in the world.” He shared the importance of teamwork and enlightened the students on how to ace an interview. Later, he felicitated Prof. Urvi Shukla who further explained the details of writing a CV. She shared the Indian format of a CV which was to be followed and went on to explain the structure and minute details that are to be written in a CV. She also threw limelight on the importance of having a cover letter along with the CV. She instructed the students to be grammatically sound & remember the dos and don’ts of an ideal Curriculum Vitae. Lastly, she attended to the individual queries and doubts of the attendees and presented an ideal Curriculum Vitae through a PowerPoint Presentation.
The seminar ended with Prof. Minakshi Chaturvedi, Coordinator of the Department of Commerce (Morning) who shared her advice with the students to be confident and genuine and to appear for the interview in formal attire. She also shared with the students how working in corporate sectors helps the students gain experience for building up their careers. Lastly, she wished everyone good luck for the upcoming Placement Drive
