The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised an inter-college film festival on the 2nd of July 2024 to celebrate the essence of filmmaking. This initiative was taken by the filmmaking collective of BESC, Celluloid, with additional guidance from its mentor, Suprovo Tagore. With participation from around 10 colleges in the city, all the students took part in various distinctive events ranging from Ad-film Making and Music Video Making to other events such as Film Poster Making, Reel Making, and Short Film Making.
The day commenced with the inaugural ceremony, where the ceremonial lamp — symbolising art and wisdom — was lit to mark the beginning of this charismatic festival. An energetic and fun performance by the western dance group of the Flames Collective of the college lightened the audience’s spirit and filled the atmosphere with enthusiasm. The Rector and Dean of Student Affairs delivered an illuminating speech that celebrated the essence of this creative event.
AD FILM MAKING:
The first event began in the Jubilee Hall of the college campus and revolved around bridging the gap between Generation Z and Millennials. Around five colleges took part in this competition, and each portrayed its unique perspective through a presentation. The maximum time given to each team was 90 seconds, and each advertisement was played twice. The judges for this event were Abhrajit Bhattacharya and Suprovo Tagore. The first runner-up of this event was THK Jain College, and the winner was the main team of The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
MUSIC VIDEO MAKING:
The second event required the participants to create an engaging music video. Some of the most significant videos explored themes such as the struggles of artists, friendships, and stages of love. The enchanting plot twists and melodious rhythm of the music videos captivated the audience’s attention. The judge for this event was Mr. Rubesh Sircar. The second position was bagged by Shree Agrasain College, while the winners were the main team of The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
FILM POSTER MAKING:
The next event was the Film Poster Making competition. Around six colleges participated. All participants were expected to design a film poster within a stipulated amount of time and showcase their creativity. Some posters revolved around horror imagery, while others represented classic Bollywood films, successfully offering variety to the audience. The judge for this event was Ekta Bhattacharya. The first runner-up was Shree Agrasain College, and the emerging winner was the main team of The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
SHORT FILMMAKING:
One of the most awaited events was Short Filmmaking, which commenced around 3:00 P.M. in the Concept Hall of the college campus. This event was judged by Shaket Banerjee, Debopriya Mukherjee, and Ritwika Choudhuri. The time limit for each film was restricted to fifteen minutes. Each submission was played once, followed by a question-and-answer round, which the participants tackled smartly. The themes ranged from struggles during poverty to self-discovery in the fast-paced modern world. The short films left a significant impact on the minds of the audience, making the event a success. The second position was bagged by the main team of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, while the winning position was secured by the OTSE team of The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
REEL MAKING:
The concluding event of the Bhawanipur Film Festival was the Reel Making competition. The theme for the participants was ‘Leaving Footprints.’ This event was judged by Altamash Hamid, Upahar Biswas, and Suprovo Tagore. The reels were showcased in front of the audience and were followed by a feedback round by the judges. The participants captured the essence of the given topic by blending various themes, including friendships, college life, and love. The second position was secured by Shree Agrasain College, and the winners were the main team of The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
After all the events concluded, the closing ceremony began, followed by the announcement of the winners. The Best Director award was bagged by Yuvraj Surana for the film Domino by the main team of The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
The Best Background Score was secured by Devang Nagar for the music video by the OTSE team of The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
The Best Editor award went to Rupanta Majumder of Heritage College.
The Best Actor (Male) was awarded to Ayush Mishra for the short film Domino by the OTSE team of The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
The Best Actor (Female) award went to Rajnandini Gupta for the short film Muskaane Jhoothi Hai by the main team of The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
The overall second position in the Bhawanipur Film Festival 2024 was bagged by Shree Agrasain College. The emerging winners were none other than The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
The closing ceremony concluded with an electrifying band performance in the Concept Hall of the college campus from 6:00 P.M. onwards. The first edition of the Bhawanipur Film Festival 2024 welcomed impeccable artists from various colleges and gave them a platform to showcase their talent and passion for filmmaking.
