“Fitness is not about being better than someone, it is about being better than yourself ”
With a constant determination to promote a healthy lifestyle, The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised another fitness campaign in its neighbouring venue, 4A. The initiative, Fitness Week, was organised in collaboration with the gym, Absolute Fitness Studio, to provide students of all semesters across all disciplines with the proper fitness training to help them instil those practices in their daily lives. Just as the name suggests, Fitness Week began on the 18th of June 2024 and went on till the 22nd of June 2024. The 5-day workshop had activities like Yoga, Hula Hoop, and Zumba lined up for students to participate in. Starting from 4:30 P.M. and ending at 5:30 P.M., the timing was ideal for everyone, students and teachers alike. Everyone was requested to be dressed accordingly, preferably in fitness attire.
The Zumba workshop was held on the 18th, 20th and 22nd of June 2024 with more than 20 people in 3 days, participating in the three sessions. The hour-long workshops were filled with lively and rhythmic Western music to which the participants danced on. The sessions were conducted under the guidance of Ms. Rajanya Bhadra, a Zumba trainer. She encouraged everyone to follow her steps and move to the rhythm of the music for an effective workout. The dance routine included a series of high jumps and stretches, ensuring a challenging and energetic workout for all participants.
The Yoga classes held on the 19th and 21st of June 2024 had Manashi Manna, an award-winning yoga trainer who came to demonstrate the ‘Asanas’ to the novice participants. It was delightful to have more than 10 participants in the 2 days, convincing everyone that more and more people are attracted to the practice of Yoga. In the workshops, to begin with, everyone was asked to do basic exercises to loosen up the muscles. Then, they were asked to be seated in the ‘Padmasana’ position and repeat the asanas that were being demonstrated by Mrs Manna. Asanas like the ‘Suryanamaskar’, ‘Makarasana’, ‘Bhujangasana’, and ‘Tadasana’ were some of the few that were practiced by the participants. Her student also displayed some advanced asanas like the ‘Chakrasana’, to reveal the feats one can achieve by practicing Yoga regularly.
Finally, on the 22nd of June 2024 alongside the Zumba sessions, participants also took their time out to try the hula hoops which had been provided by the college itself. Irrespective of age, everyone showed keen interest in the hoops and portrayed their balancing skills. The activity was a much-needed respite from the workout, bringing laughter and joy to all.
Alongside students, the Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah; Prof. Minakshi Chaturvedi, Co-ordinator of the Dept. of Commerce (Morning); Prof. Vasundhara Mishra; CA Prof. Vivek P. Patwari; and Prof. Rekha Nariwal took active part in the sessions on all days to encourage students as well as engage in the holistic initiative.
