With the onset of spring, the country finds itself engulfed in the colours of Holi, one of India’s most celebrated festivals. Close to the ‘Phalguna Purnima’ Holi has many unique and unusual forms of celebration, making it a highly thrilling festival. One such unique celebration occurs here at The Bhawanipur Education Society College, where ‘Fagun’ is organised honouring the non-teaching Staff of the college who are an integral part of the college & its functioning. Held in the college premises as a token of gratitude towards the people who responsibly care for the institution all year round, this year Fagun celebrations took place on the 23rd of March 2024 in the Jubilee Hall.
The event began at 2:30 P.M. with a guest list of over 250 people and several performances in line for the audience to enjoy. As the guests entered the hall, the student volunteers anointed their foreheads with a sandalwood ‘Tilak’ to welcome them. The first performance was by the Classical dance group (Flames) collective, who performed to the classical music of fagun The performance set the tone of the event and was followed by a speech from the Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah. In his address, Prof. Shah thanked each non-teaching staff for their valuable input towards maintaining the standards of the college while also aiding in its daily operations. He soon turned to the audience & called on stage members of the Non-Teaching fraternity to be acknowledged with a token of gift & appreciation.
The event proceeded further with Ms. Rekha Narewal welcoming the festival of spring with her songs on Holi. The audience was thereafter entertained with KBC-themed riddles, which when answered correctly were given chocolates. This was followed by a Stand-up performance by one of our students, SK Saquib Saeed who entertained the audience with his humour. Soon after the Enact team of the college put up an enticing show of ‘lathmar’ holi from the towns of Barsana & Nandgaon. The festival of colours was the theme of the act & was an absolute thrill to witness in a musical & theatrical streak. To conclude the day’s festivities the Flames Western & Bollywood team gave the audience a chance to sing & dance along with joyful Bollywood numbers to groove on.
Towards the end, the event concluded with floral showers on the attendees, as each present at the venue played a floral holi & moved towards the Inner space. At Inner Space volunteers were ready to distribute gifts & food coupons to the Non-Teaching staff who then proceeded to the Canteen to savour some delicacies with a chilled Thandai to beat the summers ahead of spring.
