The Department of Political Science organized a Prize Distribution Ceremony on December 15, 2023 in Room Number 530 for the students of Semester V, to recognise their achievements in all types of academic and disciplinary activities during the semester. This event is based upon the various academic and disciplinary measures introduced by the Department for the overall development of the students, not only in academics but in various other fields.
The proceedings of the prize distribution ceremony were conducted by Amala Dhandhania, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science. She explained the parameters of the Academic and Disciplinary Measures on which the students were judged and awarded. She also mentioned how this endeavour has been successful in creating an environment of discipline and a zeal for learning and she believes that this in turn will motivate the students to perform better in future.
The following prizes and recognitions were given out:
a. highest class attendance (based on all four Honours papers of CC11, CC12, DSEA1, DSEB1) was won by Akshaya Venkateswaran
b. the prize for Best Performer in Continuous Internal Assessment was jointly won by Akshaya Venkateswaran and Upashana Pradhan
c. the prize for Best Daily Individual Class Performance was won by Akshaya Venkateswaran
d. the best paper presentation in students’ Seminar was won by Group F (represented by Akshaya Venkateswaran, Garima Pradhan)
e. the Prize for Academic Quiz was won by Group A
f. the prizes for the highest and second highest score in the BA Semester IV Honours Examination in Political Science 2023, under University of Calcutta have been given to Akshaya Venkateswaran with an SGPA of 7.45 and Upashna Pradhan with an SGPA of 7.402 respectively
g. the best group (students are divided into six groups), which is a prize decided on the basis of various parameters which include the Percentage of Attendance in Continuous Internal Assessments, Continuous Internal Evaluations, Mentoring, Doubt-Clearing sessions, Student’s Seminar and Assignment Submissions. This prize was won by Group A led by the Group Representative, Mahimaa Bhura
Students expressed satisfaction with the current criteria and appreciated the initiative taken by the department. The event, based on the Academic and Disciplinary Measures of the department throughout the semester, seems to have motivated the students to perform better and encouraged more active participation in classes; through healthy competition among individuals and groups.
