Seminar on GMAT

On the 10th of October 2023, The Bhawanipur Education Society College held an enlightening seminar on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), organized in collaboration with the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). The event took place at the Jubilee Hall within the college campus, commencing at 10:30 A.M. The hall was abuzz with the presence of approximately 200 eager students, all with a keen interest in gaining valuable insights about GMAT. The Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) is a globally recognized standardized test for assessing the skills and capabilities of prospective graduate management education students. GMAC, as an international non-profit organization, plays a pivotal role in providing products and services to academic institutions and students seeking higher education in management.

The seminar was graced by two distinguished speakers: Miss Seema Parakkat, Associate Manager from GMAC (South East Asia), and Dr. Moumita Moitra, a renowned academician with a Ph.D. from Kent State University and an Admission Advisor for various academic programs, including PhD, MS, MBA, and undergraduate courses. Miss Seema Parakkat initiated the seminar with an interactive session by posing a fundamental question to the audience, “Who knows what GMAT is?” The students provided diverse responses, paving the way for a comprehensive discussion. During her talk, Miss Parakkat provided a basic overview of GMAT, elucidated the GMAT examination process, compared MBA programs in India with those abroad, and highlighted the advantages of pursuing an international MBA. Following her enlightening presentation, Dr. Moumita Moitra introduced herself to the eager audience and delved into the nuances of GMAT. She shared valuable tips and strategies on how to excel in the GMAT examination. To further engage the students, she distributed a questionnaire to gauge their understanding of GMAT-related concepts.

Throughout the seminar, the audience exhibited unwavering enthusiasm, actively participating in discussions, and posing thought-provoking questions that underscored their deep curiosity about GMAT. The Q&A session was exceptionally engaging. Students raised several insightful queries, further enriching the seminar. They sought to understand key distinctions between GMAT and GRE, seeking guidance on how to determine the most suitable test for their career goals. Others were keen to hear success stories of individuals who had substantially improved their GMAT scores through preparation and secured admission to top-tier business schools. Curiosity extended to the perception of applicants who take the GMAT multiple times and whether multiple attempts were viewed unfavourably by business schools. Moreover, students were eager to grasp the unique advantages of pursuing an MBA abroad compared to domestic programs and explored scholarship opportunities available to GMAT test-takers, including the criteria for eligibility. This active participation and curiosity demonstrated the students’ dedication to acquiring knowledge and insights about the GMAT examination and the broader landscape of management education.

The seminar was concluded with a closing speech by Prof. Dilip Shah, the Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, who emphasized the advantages of GMAT and shared success stories of students from The BESC who had achieved remarkable results while pursuing their MBA studies. In a gracious and fitting conclusion, Prof.Shah felicitated the esteemed speakers for their valuable contributions to the event. The seminar proved to be an enriching experience for all the attendees, leaving them better informed and inspired to pursue their dreams of higher education, both in India and abroad. Incorporating such informative sessions into the college’s curriculum not only empowers students but also strengthens the institution’s commitment to providing holistic education and fostering global perspectives.
