As an initiative towards capacity building and skill enhancement among students, the Department of Education organized a workshop on ‘Developing Effective Communication Skills and on Writing a Perfect Resume’ for the students of Semesters 2 and 4 on April 25, 2023, in the second-floor auditorium. As the resource person for this event, we had with us Dr. Sujata Agarwal, a certified coach and consultant who steered our students through the basic elements of effective communication and helped them write an impressive resume.
Dr. Agarwal started off with the evolution of the communication process and stressed on how the behaviour and tonal quality plays a crucial role in setting the mood of the conversation. She presented a video that highlighted the importance of proper gestures and eye-hand coordination as key elements in any discourse. The session involved a fun activity that aimed to promote teamwork and active listening skills among students.
The session then moved over to the next important element of the workshop, which was building an impressive resume. Dr. Agarwal clarified the deep-rooted misconception about the two terms that are synonymously used: CV and resume. She explained that curriculum Vitae pertains to specific domains, while a resume is typically not area-specific and is always much shorter than CVs. Furthermore, it was also discussed how to build a unique CV and create an impressionable image during interviews. The session was quite enriching and informative, especially for our students who are on the threshold of their professional lives.
The Street Play was held in the lawn in front of the Common Room. It was judged by Abhishek Bannerjee and Janardhan Ghosh. A total of five team had participated and each team consisted of eight to ten members. The topic allotted to them was Rape and accordingly the teams carried out their performances.
