Experts believe that Kho Kho originated in the Maharashtra region of India and in ancient times was played on chariots and was called Rathera, Rathera is the Hindi translation for a chariot. The Kho-Kho competition was held on the 21st and 22nd February 2023 at the College Turf from 8:00 am onwards. For the opening ceremony Prof. Dilip Shah, Dean of Student Affairs gave a short speech, where he thanked the participants for taking part in this competition and continuing the tradition of playing this sport.
For the Girl’s category, there were 4 teams in all, and each team comprised 9 players including one substitute. All the teams went against each other, like in any other league simulation. The audience was completely swayed away by the enthusiasm displayed by the participants. In a sport like Kho Kho teamwork is imperative because it is only then that they can embrace defeat resiliently and win the championship. The semi-final was between Knights and Thomasina, in which Thomasina came out victorious. Then the finals were between Thomasina and the Warriors. Thomasina was on the attacking side and they could only manage to take 8 points while the Warriors attacked and ended the game by taking 9 people in just 3 minutes. It was a 20 min game, 10 min per half.
The championship was an absolute victory and Prof. Shah was thanked for his consistent efforts in encouraging sportsmanship amongst the students.
