The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised one of their best fests ‘ILMAISU 2022’ on the 29th and 30th of May, 2022. It was a two-day intercollegiate fest that had participants from more than 12 colleges. ILMAISU consisted of various events which went on for two consecutive days, throughout, in the college campus. The two-day fest witnessed some brilliant performances across various fields of art.
ILMAISU 2022 was inaugurated by Prof. Dilip Shah, the Dean of Student Affairs, and only because of his unswerving acknowledgment, this fest was possible. The chief guests for the inauguration were Mr. Srijit Mukherji (Writer, Director, Lyricist), Mr. Saptak Sanai Das (Music Composer), Mr. Arjun Chakraborty (Actor), Mr. Anindya Sengupta (Actor), Ms. Shruti Das (Actor), Ms. Madhurima Basak (Actor), Mr. Samantak Sinha (Lead Musician). They came to promote their new film ‘X=PREM’ and they congratulated our college for organising the fest and wished us success.
The sponsors for the event were: Opening Bell Cafe, Tyre Patty, Stun the Sun, Burger Pandey, Cafe Connect, Barbies Little Cafe, Chashma Shoppee, Wavelength salon, Vanity Cheq, Lakme Academy, and Eco Lounge. After the inauguration, the fest finally began.
NRITYANGANA: The fest was kicked off by this event. This event was held from 10 am to 12noon at the Concept Hall and the audience enjoyed it to their fullest. Nrityangana portrayed Odissi classical dancing style, the event was judged by Ms. Debomitra Sengupta. 5 colleges participated in this event and the winner was our own, The Bhawanipur Education Society College. NSHM Knowledge Campus got the position of the first runner-up while Shri Shikshayatan College turned out to be the second runner-up.
PHOTO STORY: Photo Story was the second event. Many students from different colleges participated in this event. The theme of the event was ‘Light Plays’. Here the participants needed to click pictures that had to be related to one other and portray a short story. Each participant could click a maximum of 10 pictures. The students were given 6 hours from 10 am to 4 pm, when they could go and explore the city and click pictures according to them. The judge of the event was Mr. Argha Banerjee and Shri Shikshayatan College was declared the winner. BESC left a mark in the event as the first runner-up. IIHM rendered an impressive effort and was announced the second runner-up.
SAREE DRAPING: In this event, the participating teams were supposed to be in pairs. Each team had one model and one accompanist. Every team had to bring their sarees for the event. The parameters for determining the best duo were how efficient were they in the knowledge of the clothing and how efficiently could a team present itself. The judges for the event were Ms. Sujata Karmakar and Ms. Debika Mukherjee. The winners of the event were Ashutosh College with NSHM Knowledge Campus as the first- runner up and Sister Nivedita University as the second runner-up.
SWITCH: Breaking taboos and seeking gratification, Switch is one of a kind. Emancipating in nature, it defined that fashion has no gender. A pair was formed by one male and one female while participant girls’ colleges had to bend the rule. The girl was required to drape a saree for the boy and the boy would do makeup for the girl. The time limit was twenty minutes. It was followed by duo ramp walks of all the five respective teams. This event was judged by Ms. Sujata Karmakar and Ms. Debika Mukherjee. NSHM Knowledge Campus emerged as the winner. Sister Nivedita University graced the second position, and The Bhawanipur Education secured the position of the second runner-up.
NAIL ART: Over the years, there has been, a rising trend in nail art. It is well acclaimed that the model’s nails are ‘the canvas’ for an artist. The number of participating colleges in this event was two, namely, Shivnath Shastri College and The Bhawanipur Education Society College. The given topic was Marble Art. The participants were to be judged based on cleanliness and hygiene. The judge for the event was Ms. Sujata Karmakar. Both the pairs did fashion impressive nail art. Shivnath Shastri procured the winning position.
AAJA NACHLE: Undoubtedly, one of the most fascinating events of the fest, Aaja Nachle was a treat to the audiences. In this event, the participants of each college were given a particular theme, on which they had to perform. The event was judged by Mr. Gaurav Bindra. The winners of the event were The Bhawanipur Education Society with Shivnath Shastri College as the first runner-up and Sister Nivedita University as the second runner-up.
STREET DANCE BATTLE: The popularity of this event could be discerned from the marvelous crowd present there. It was an event where dancers had to perform the art of street dance, on given songs, impromptu. It got started with prelims and ended with the final battle with the colleges which were selected after the first round. Truly, the dance form is impeccable, and the artists justified it. Mr. Anurag Ghosh judged the event. Calcutta Institute of Engineering and Management achieved the winning title. AJC College was declared the first runner up and BESC became the second runner-up.
THEME MANDAL: This event was all about bringing one’s creative imagination to live with an idea of a mandala through abstract ideas and the power of good explanation. The theme of the event was “Egypt’s culture of Hinduism and Buddhism.” This event was judged by Mr. Shantanu Chatterjee. The winner of the event was Women’s Christian College with Shri Shikshayatan College as the first runner-up and The Bhawanipur Education Society College as the second runner-up.
BEST OUT OF WASTE: Recycling is a useful phenomenon and a fun-filled process. And it was well represented in the Ilmaisu Fete through the event ‘Best out of Waste’. The topic was directed to something productive. Only waste materials were to be used. They comprised cardboard, bottles, tin, newspapers, etc. The presiding judge was Mr. Shantanu Chatterjee who is a renowned Indian artist. Wonderful works were being put up. Poushali Roy from Ashutosh College grabbed the winner’s prize by creating a unique indoor gardening setup. The first runner-up represented Shri Shikshayatan College while Adrish Ghosh from BESC emerged as the second runner-up.
GROOVE IT, MOVE IT: Compared to all the events, Groove it, move it was quite distinct as it was purely an event based on the western form of dance such as (hip-hop, breaking, locking, waacking, etc.) and with different themes that were given to every college. Mr. Anurag Ghosh was the judge for this event. The winner of this event was The Bhawanipur Education Society College and The Best Dancer Award was given to Deven Khadka.
STORY SPLIT-SCREEN: This one was characterized by photography and editing. 2 participants could represent a college. It was observed from 10 am to 4 pm on the second day of the fete. 5 hours were given for the segment of photography and the next 45 minutes were reserved for editing. It was a fascinating event. Mr. Argha Banerjee was the judge for this event. Ilead became the winner. THK Jain was declared the first runner-up and Bhawanipur College, the second runner-up.
MR. & MISS ILMAISU: Mr & Miss Ilmaisu was a captivating event. People were so eager and excited about it. The event started around noon on 30th May, the second day of the fest, and ended around 2 pm. It took place at the Concept Hall and the hall was packed with audiences all cheering and rooting for their respective colleges. Around 10 colleges participated. It consisted of 3 rounds- the walk round, the talent round where the participants needed to showcase some of their talents like singing, dancing, stand-up comedy, and acting, and the last round was the QNA round by the judge. All the participants performed brilliantly and lit up the stage. The judge of this event was Ms. Saima Ahmed. The winners were: Raj Gupta from Ilead who was declared Mr. Ilmaisu. Shaizadi Zaina from Heritage Academy was declared Miss Ilmaisu and there was a special mention: Chandrika Dutta from THK Jain.
PASSING THE PAPER: In this event, the teams from every college had to participate, in pairs. The first member was given 45 minutes to write. The next 10 minutes were given to the second member to read their partner’s work. They had to continue from where their partner had left for the next 45 minutes. The theme of the event was, that the first starting line of the story should start with “I woke up and found the date to be 30th June 1920.” The event was judged by Mr. Argha Banerjee. The winners of the event were The Heritage Academy with Sister Nivedita University as the first runner-up and Shri Shikshayatan College as the second runner-up.
GLASS PAINTING: Over the centuries, the mode and medium of art have proved to be manifold. Glass painting is recognized as one of them. The one-hour event was evaluated by Mr. Shantanu Chatterjee. The event was enhanced by the zealous participants. They had to originate a piece based on the Fusion of Indian and Western Culture. Five contestants, including BESC(OTSE), represented the colleges. Every piece stood out amongst the others. Shivnath Shastri College was declared the winner. The second position and the third position were held by the Bhawanipur College and Shri Shikshayatan College respectively.
DOUBLE DHAMAAL: As the name suggests, this was a duo event. There were two participants from each college. Every college had its themes on which they had to perform. The judge for the event was Mr. Gaurav Bindra and the winners for the event were Shivnath Shastri College with The Bhawanipur Education Society being the first runner-up and Sister Nivedita University as the second runner-up.
FASHION SHOW: Last but not the least, Fashion Show proved to be charismatic and stirring. The event was initiated by introducing the audience to a fresh brand-named Vanity Cheq which is characterized by augmented reality. With 12 colleges and 120 models, the event bedazzled the audience. Religiosity or modernity, clothing or makeup, everything found expression conclusively. The models had a few rounds of ramp walk and all that glittered was their poise. Mr. Mik Bagui was the judge for the event. The Best Walk award went to Anshiya Chowdhary from BESC(OTSE) while Pallavi Bhavat was declared the show-stopper. The winner of this event was none other than BESC. Heritage Academy was the first runner-up and Ilead secured the position of the second runner-up.
The overall winner was our college, BESC. Shivnath Shastri emerged as the first runner-up and Shri Shikshayatan College, as the second runner-up.
The fest ended with prize distributions to the winners. Ilmaisu was truly successful. What made it more special were the vivid participation of the zealous candidates and the relentless efforts of the management. The event was bid a goodbye only to meet again in the next year.
