The Department of Sociology, as a part of the coursework on research methods and dissertation had organized a one-day field trip only for the 6th semester students on 11th March, 2022, to equip them with the tactics of interrogating and interpreting the field. 17 students accompanied by 6 teachers took part in the field work at Belur Math. The significance of this field visit is to interrogate the impact of religion on everyday life and to analyze the flowering of the Ramakrishna movement.
The visit emulated among the students the methodological usages necessary to theorize their field experiences. To analyze the Ramakrishna movement, the students were taken to Dakshineswar temple to understand the initial beginnings of the Ramakrishna movement, and his teachings. The devotee profile was also studied in both the places and a gender dimension in temple visit and participating in rituals was noticed. The field trip also included a visit to the Ramakrishna Museum in Belur Math, as museum and archival data plays a significant role in theorizing any social issues.
