“Self-defence is not just a set of techniques; it’s a state of mind and it begins with the belief that you are worth defending.”
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit and The National Cadet Corps (NSS) wing jointly visited Shanti Rani Rainbow Home, Bansdroni, Kolkata. Shanti Rani rainbow home gives residential, educational, health, nutrition, and emotional support to 100 underprivileged girls of all age groups.
The NCC wing led by Cadet Ashutosh Kumar Jha along with 10 representatives of NCC conducted a self-defence workshop at the home to instil a sense of confidence in women when they are faced with any form of physical threat. The representatives acted and explained the basic techniques which can be used to safeguard themselves in any unpleasant situation in public places and in public transport which they may be subjected to in their daily lives. Apprising the students about the importance of Self Defence, Cadet Ashutosh Kumar Jha said that one needs to tap one’s hidden physical strength and learn to RESPOND, not REACT. He motivated the students to come forward and demonstrate the combat skills. This workshop was primarily aimed at empowering girls belonging to the age group of 5 to 18 years, by imparting techniques of self-defence that are crucial for their personal safety.
The NSS unit of The Bhawanipur Education Society College distributed Covid essential items such as masks and sanitizers to all the girls, sisters, teaching and non-teaching staff members of Rainbow home.
The event was conducted following social distancing and safety protocols. We thank Prof. Gargi for accompanying the students and Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah for encouraging and giving support to students for organising such events.
