National Conference on Paradigm Shift in the Market Forces in the Indian context – Impact on Marketing, Accounting & Finance, Strategic HRM, Operations and Supply Chain Management
A Two-Day National Conference on “Paradigm Shift in the Market Forces in the Indian Context – Impact on Marketing, Accounting & Finance, Strategic HRM, Operations and Supply Chain Management” was held in the Jubilee Hall of the college on July 5 & 6, 2019. The seminar was organised by the Department of Commerce (UG & PG), Department of Business Administration of the college in collaboration with Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM), Kolkata. The thrust of the seminar was on creating a platform for spontaneous interaction between the intelligentsia and industry experts to explore new possibilities and interpretations. The conference brought together academicians and industry experts to a common forum where the spotlight was not only on the prevalent practices but also on prospective headways in business management. Keynote speeches by stalwarts from academics and industry became the cynosure of the conference. There were thought provoking deliberations that provided deep insight on the recent developments in the fields of Accounting and finance, Marketing, Strategic Human Resource Management, Operations and Supply Chain Management.
The conference commenced with the opening address by Dean of Student Affairs Mr. Dilip Shah followed by the welcome address by the Teacher-in-Charge Dr. Suchandra Chakravarty. The Director General, Dr. Suman Mukerjee also addressed the august gathering in the presence of Rector Dr. S.K. Dan, Convenor Dr. Binoy K. Chowdhury and Convenor Mr. Saspo Chakraborty. The Plenary session was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Rajagopal Dhar Chakraborti (Director, IISWBM) followed by the keynote address by Dr. Prashant Mishra (Dean, NI & ER, IIM-C). This was followed by four technical sessions.
During the panel discussion panellists engaged in an exhaustive discourse on ‘The Changing face of HRM and Marketing’. This session was moderated by Dr. Suman Kumar Mukerjee with eminent panellists Dr, Sanjay Patro (Professor, XLRI), Dr. Prashant Mishra (Dean, NI & ER, IIM-C), Dr. Rajib Dasgupta (Professor, Department of Commerce, University of Calcutta), Ms. Rajrupa Chakraborty (Former HR head, Netscape India), Mr, Anand Nair (Regional Sales & Marketing Manager, East, at ITC Hotel).
The first technical session was chaired by Dr. Sanjay Patro (Professor, XLRI). In this session Dr. Mohua Banerjee (IIM, Kolkata) enlightened the audience with a discussion on marketing. The second technical session was chaired by Dr. Soumitra Kumar Mallick (HOD, M.Phil & Ph.D. IISWBM). In this session Mr. Sujyoti Mukherjee (Vice-president – Finance and Accounts, Berger Paints) highlighted changes in Tax regime and Behavioural Science. The third technical session was chaired by Dr. Gairik Das (HOD – MRM, MDP & Business Projects, IISWBM) which addressed HR metrics and Talent Analysis, Artificial intelligence, Big data and gender stereotyping in Strategic Human Resource Management. The fourth technical session was chaired by Associate Professor, IISWBM Dr. Jayanti De. In this session, Mr. Prabir Kumar Mitra addressed the utility of Behavioural Operations Management, intersections of Human Resources, supply chain decisions, optimisation models, logistics and analytics. Apart from these technical sessions a Poster presentation competition took place and was judged by Dr. Tridib Sengupta.
The conference concluded with the valedictory session chaired by Dr. J.K. Das (Professor, Department of Commerce, University of Calcutta). Dr. Ashish Kumar Sana summarised the session in the presence of the Teacher-in-Charge Dr. Suchandra Chakravarty, Convenor Dr. Binoy K. Chowdhury (IISWBM) and Convenor Mr. Saspo Chakraborty (BESC). The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by IQAC Coordinator of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, Mr. Tathagata Sen.
This conference received considerable response from students, research scholars and faculty members both from within and without the college. Several papers were also presented by faculty members. This national conference, organised by the joint organising secretaries Mr. Saspo Chakraborty and Dr. Tridib Sengupta, was exceptionally rich in academic and research-oriented discourse.
