Dr. Aniruddha Mondal of The Department of Physics, NIT, Durgapur spoke about the subject and elucidated about the novel and state-of-the-art device fabrication processes. Registrations were received from almost all academic institutions from all tiers of faculties and students across the state and beyond. The initial registration was around 150. A generous portion of the registered candidates, numbered about 94, turned up for the webinar. The students were most enthusiastic about the event and from their feedback it seemed that they have gained a lot in terms of subject enrichment and future pursuits.
The webinar was a successful event from the point of view of the students and faculties alike. The departmental faculties were present all through the webinar session. E-certificates were procured to the registered participants.
2. The Department of Electronics arranged, in collaboration with the IQAC, a webinar on ‘Hazards of electromagnetic radiation’ on 29th of July, 2020 on Google Meet.
This second webinar is an initiative of the department to impart knowledge and awareness among students and in general populace about the harmful effects of electromagnetic radiations. The topic of the webinar was ‘Hazards of electromagnetic radiation’ and was disseminated by the eminent speaker Dr. Monojit Mitra, Professor of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur. The webinar was conceived with the timely thought of the probable health hazards due to the overwhelming usage of mobile communication during this pressing pandemic situation when people are forced into working from home and students are burdened with so many online classes/tutorials.
The lecture was lucid. The contents of the speech were not only enlightening but was also deeply concerning, The distinguished speaker warned the participants of the incessant use of mobile phones. The harms remain invisible to such an extent that when detected, the damage caused goes beyond treatment that might lead to death as well.
About 80 registered participants attended the lecture from various academic institutions across the state and beyond. It included both the students and faculties from multiple tiers. Even personnel from industries serving in the capacity of industrial administrators also participated. The 80+ participants who attended the lecture threw up many questions in relation to the topic and the speaker complied with each and every query. Hopefully, the lecture was not that much academic as to bring regular diversion of thoughts, but nonetheless, was absorbing enough to keep the interest of the audience on until the end of the session. The participants also gave feedback which would eventually help us further our endeavours in future.
E-certificates were disbursed to the registered attendees in their registered email addresses on the very next day. The link to the recording of the lecture is to be shared to keep with the demand of the participants.
