August 23rd and 24th, 2019. Jubilee Hall. There is more, much more to pop dance than what meets the eye. For one, such dance forms are in a constant state of flux with street influences enriching them at any given point in time. Secondly, because of their global appeal, such dance forms transcend all barriers that are unnatural and reach out to unite the brotherhood of man. And thirdly because the fluid nature of these dance forms not only call for interpretations that are not only universal but call for an extreme physical fitness as dancer and gymnastics and callisthenics merge into one.
The Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC) is the proud nursery of dance as a form of expression with students in the past having used different dance forms to achieve heights that many strive for but only a few attain. The BESC dance collective Flames is a case in point, which performs to enthral, making winning friends and trophies a practise, rather than an exception. Naturally, the Bhawanipur Dance Championship (BDC) which acts as the talent scouting platform for filling the ranks of the celebrated dance collective of the college is one huge event for students and performers alike.
The College authorities are well aware about the fact that not only are the dreams and aspirations of the young students at stake, the flatform is also a stepping stone for budding dance careers to bloom into professions, often instant stardom. That is why no stone is left unturned to provide the willing students every opportunity to hone their talents to perfection – a task that has been entrusted to, who else, but Professor Minakshi Chaturvedi who herself is an accomplished dancer and naturally relates to every dream that the students may have in their hearts to put on their dancing shoes.
The two-day workshop on Western Dance was such an example. About fifty students participated in the workshop, conducted and guided by Prof Minakshi Chaturvedi who were taken through the motion and given in-depth instructions on contemporary and breaking dance styles. Students were gi9ven instructions on how to control the flow of their bodies so that their emotions may find expression in their movement – their dance establishing connects with the audience and communicating through music and moves all that they wish to establish.
