Without mathematics, there’s nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers.
“MATHEMATICS HAS TRADITIONALLY BEEN PERCEIVED AS DIFFICULT. THE PRIMARY REASON FOR THIS STATE OF MATHEMATICS LEARNING TODAY IS THE SIGNIFICANT GAP BETWEEN CONTENT AND PEDAGOGY. IN ORDER TO BRIDGE THIS GAP IT IS IMPERATIVE TO BRING ABOUT A CHANGE IN THE WAY MATHEMATICS IS TAUGHT”
Today on the 7th of Sept, THE BHAWANIPORE EDUCATION SOCIETY COLLEGE, department of BBA held a seminar on “HOW TO USE A CALCULATOR”. The speaker for todays seminar was none other than the very well-known MATHS genius of Kolkata, CA VIVEK PATWARI.
The purpose of todays seminar was to reach out to the students with a new paradigm of using a commercial calculator and how they can do things in a commercial calculator what a scientific calculator is capable of. A jam packed crowd of 150+ students gathered at the seminar hall and it went on for about 2 hours. One of the peculiarities of mathematics teaching handed down over the generation, is that it was taught in a strictly logical way, ignoring the fact that mathematics was not discovered in quite that way. Too often mathematics is taught on the abstract level of arbitrary numbers with examples that have no connection to the real world. It is a challenge to teach mathematics to the “mobile generation”. So an effort was made by our loved Kaushik Sir and the head organising committee which consists of THUSAR VENUGOPAL and KHIZIR JAFRI to give an edge to the students of the BBA department in the field of competitive mathematics .
What amazed the students today was how they were still unaware of as how to use a commercial calculator in the most efficient way. The tips and tricks shared by the speaker was totally unknown to the people living in this modern era. The students got to explore what a calculator is capable of other than just adding or subtracting numbers. The session was so enjoyable and humorous, and the students got to learn so much that we forgot how it ended so early.
After listening to the speaker, the students gained a huge advantage on how we can adapt numbers in our finger tips. Calculating a big 7 figure number or may it be an antilog everything now seems so easy, even statistics seemed a mess until now for student coming from non-mathematical background.
The platform provided to us by KAUSHIK SIR is absolutely a boost to the students for cracking big numbers in life. It’s not enough to just thank the speaker today, CA VIVEK PATWARI, as the insight he has given today is unmatchable and has changed the attitude towards using a calculator.
There’s a lot more to come from the DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES, BESC. A lot more new milestones are to be touched as we look forward to become the best in the country.
