The Republic Day was celebrated with full solemnity by the teachers and students of the Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC).
Students from the ISC and the ICSE sections of JJ Ajmeira School also participated in the proceedings.
Following the BESC practise, the proceedings were strung around Rishi Aurobindo – philosopher, yogi, guru, poet and nationalist – to whom, the college payed its humble respects.
The story of the life of Sri Aurobinbdo – who studied for the Indian Civil Service at the King’s College, Cambridge, England to become a fiery revolutionary seeking to free India from the foreign yoke and his later transformation into an ascetic in search of the eternal truth was recounted to all those who had assembled.
A befitting introduction was also given by a student of the college, Harleen Kaur The tricolour was unfurled,
with the flag being hoisted by Champak bhai Doshi, Chairman of the Management Committee of the College.
Other distinguished members of the Management were also present on the occasion.
Contingent of students from the ISC, ICSE sections from the JJ Ajmeira School, followed by a unit of NCC cadets marched past as they saluted the flag.
Prof Dilip Shah, the Dean of Student Affairs of the College explained the core values that the Republic of India stands for before leading the assembled students in the reading of the Preamble of the Constitution of India.
This was followed by the distribution of post cards in which students were urged to take a “Pledge for India” and write whatever that they desired to do for the Nation.
The cards will be collected, the student pledges studied and classified, which will become the core of a movement that BESC seeks to start from its campus.
The aim of the entire exercise will be to get the students thinking and to progressively get them actively involved in the process that is the National developmental agenda with an aim towards nation building.
Prof Pranab Mukherjee conducted a Quiz on the life and times of Rishi Aurobindo along with some questions on the Constitution which, as usual, turned out to be an extremely gripping session.
This was followed by an exhibition of martial arts in which students of the college participated.
Students of the Flames Collective of the BESC presented dance recitals that paid tribute to the
sacrifice of all those who fought for, and helped us gain our freedom.
However, the most celebrated was the exhibition of Alpana – a traditional art form, painstakingly created by Rima Das.
The best dressed Male and Female students were also felicitated.
The programme was charted and conducted by Prof Minakshi Chaturvedi and was attended by about four hundred students, teaching and non-teaching staff members.
Also present on the occasion were senior members from the Management Committee of the College.
Students of the Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC) participated in a unique contest where they sought to (and bridged) the gap between facilitation and felicitation – the “Invincible”, inviting intelligence – where they spelled out their way to success: alliterating, ameliorating and ascending through the maze of words, even as the grains were shifted from …
