Independence Day reminds us of the arduous struggle undertaken by our freedom fighters and of our responsibility, as their descendants, to carry forward that legacy. As the nation celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day, The Bhawanipur Education Society College joined the celebrations with a special programme centred on the spirit of freedom and a tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
Held on 15 August 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., the programme began with an opening address and welcome to the guests, followed by the hoisting of the Indian National Flag, the National Song, and the National Anthem. Students, members of the College administration, faculty members, and guests came together for a morning of patriotic performances, speeches, reflection, and celebration.
The atmosphere turned patriotic as students of the ICSE School and the NCC Unit of the College participated in a disciplined March Past. Following this, Sri Rajnikant Dani, President, addressed the gathering and spoke about the significance of Independence Day and the responsibilities that accompany freedom. His address focused on remembering the sacrifices behind India’s independence while encouraging the younger generation to understand and value the freedoms they enjoy today.
The Chief Guest, Mrs. Madhumita Gupta, was then felicitated. Her presence added significance to the occasion as the programme moved beyond simply celebrating independence to reflecting on the values that hold a community together.
An important part of the speeches was the connection drawn between Independence Day and the College’s Anti-Ragging Week. The speakers highlighted that freedom also means ensuring that every individual can live and study with dignity, safety, and respect. The discussion emphasised that a truly free environment cannot exist alongside bullying, harassment, or ragging. Students were encouraged to take responsibility for creating a campus where everyone feels safe and respected, making the message of Anti-Ragging Week an extension of the larger ideals of freedom and equality.
The programme also paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee through a special presentation by the Enact Collective, commemorating his contribution to the country’s political and national life.
The formal proceedings were followed by performances by students of the Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society (ICSE) School and ISC School. Students of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, representing Crescendo and Flames (Eastern), also took the stage, adding lively and youthful energy to the celebrations.
The occasion further recognised students who participated in the Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme and Competition, with prizes distributed for their efforts to promote a ragging-free campus. The Best-Dressed Student and Faculty awards added a lighter element to the programme.
The celebration concluded with the closing remarks by Prof. Dilip Shah, Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, bringing together the day’s themes of freedom, responsibility, respect, and student participation.
The programme served as more than an Independence Day celebration. By combining patriotic remembrance with the message of Anti-Ragging Week, it reminded students that independence is not only about the freedom we have inherited, but also about the responsibility to protect the dignity, safety, and freedom of those around us.
